Once again my daughter, Kirstie, and some of her colleagues will be taking part in the Maggies Monster Bike & Hike to raise funds for the Maggies Cancer charities.

The challenge starts with a 30 mile rough terrain cycle starting in Fort William, following that there is a choice of a 12 mile, 22 mile or 42 mile hike (the later finishes in Inverness).  Kirstie is hoping to get the silver distance this year (22 mile hike) though she has struggled with an injury during her training, it wont stop her trying though.  Yours truly will be the support team again bandaging feet, and taking dry clothes and supplies to all the stops.
On top of all the training, it costs each participant £75 to take part, on top of that we have £65 each for overnight accommodation on the Friday and about £200 for van hire and diesel so it is a massive commitment in terms of time and financially.

Last year you were all very generous and your donations helped them smash their target.  With more austere times affecting us all, the team have gone for a lower target this year and if there is anyway you can help by donating even a small amount, it would be greatly appreciated not only by the team but also the charity itself.

There is a page set up to make your donations at http://www.justgiving.com/ThorntonsLawLLP2012 and if you click gift aid more money will be recouped from the government.

Thank you for any support you can give

Giving this one a wee bump as we will be heading off to the Highlands tomorrow for a 5 am start on Saturday morning, forecast is for snow tomorrow night so am hoping all those taking part make it safely to the finish.

Here is the link again if you can afford a couple of quid, thank you

Apologies for the delay in the report but it was pretty kanackering.

Kirstie managed to complete the 30m bike in under 4 hours knocking over 25 mins off her time last year and she managed the walk to bronze, where as suspected, she got a right royal bollocking from the physios and she has been told to completely rest for 2 weeks and also got to her GP and ask for an orthopaedic referral.  I hope this is the wake up call she needs and will finally get treatment, anyway she completed her bit in 8h 11m with one of the other girls and the 3 other bronzers were only 20 mins behind.

The 2 girls doing the silver (30m bike + 23.5m hike) were both in in under 12 hours (20:30) and the 6 going for gold most of them knocked nearly 2 hours off their time for last year with the last man getting in a mere 16 h 32 m after he started.  As a matter of interest, the last man to make it to the gold finish took around 26h 20mins, now that is dedication!

We headed back and once we had got all the bikes and bags out off the van and took that back, we got home about 3 am, so it was a good year as I only had to stay awake for just a little over 22 hours this time.

Thanks you for your donations, the fund is sitting at just over £5200, if you still wish to donate, please go to http://www.justgiving.com/ThorntonsLawLLP2012

Every little helps Jon and I am grateful for your donation.  I found out after the event that one of the older ladies who was with us on the support team had breast cancer 3 years ago and it was the Maggies centres that had helped her through it.  Certainly put it in to perspective for me.
