When faced with printer problems we took the step of getting a mono lazer and the odd colour print we take the flash memory to the printing shop and they run them off for about ZAR 6 each page (that about fifty pence).

Others do this too (I don't think HP came up with it ?) and to my mind this is an absolute boon ...  Many is the time I've seen an old printer producing crap because of print-head issues ...

I use a Canon 6150 scanner/copier/printer. It's also Wi-fi.

It has separate colour ink tanks and the facility to print on cd/dvd discs. You can print OHP sheets as well (making your own windows possible).

I've found that if I print Scalescenes on Photo Finish, as instructed, the prints are too good, so normal print works very well, thereby not using so much ink.

Lots of good advice given here and we thank you all.
We have decided........and ordered.......a epson sx535wd from Amazon as we know them as good sellers if there are any problems and I have an account with them.
Time and results alone will see if its a good deal but itall reads ok to us 

I'm assuming you've carried out the usual drills for head cleaning and alignment?

Yes  more times than I care to remember and somewhat deeper than the normal level of cleaning.
Yesterday before starting this thread I carried ot the manufactures cleaning/aligning procedure 12 times in a row with no results

They might be OK for normal printing needs. I would recommend using the proper Epson "Durabright" cartridges if you're using your printer for any modelling requirements, such as Scalescenes buildings. The ink is totally fade-resistant and stands up to quite rough handling.

Agreed - but Hairy specifically stated he had problems finding non-Epson carts for this unit ...

Certainly on my main Canon inkjet, I only use Canon inks - as it's a 7 or 8 cart printer, this can get expensive, but I only use it for high-quality photo imagery.

I can understand that. Its the same with most things. The original makers products are best for their products

Well ordered Sat afternoon and delivered FOC at 10-30 Monday morning wasn`t bad 
Unpacking and setup went ok and by lunch time I was ready to do a trial run. I didn`t find noise or speed a problem and altho not using photo quality papers was pleased with printing and copying.
Time will tell how it goes
