Hi Guys
I am going to be modelling a station based on Tiverton where I live so of course I want a Tiverton Castle loco. Problem is my current layout is based on GWR in the 39's so all my locos are on GWR livery and as you may know Tiverton Castle is in BR green.
There are a few possibilities I could buy it and run it as is as per rule one. Or buy it and have it repainted and renumbered n GWR or buy the GWR version and have it renamed and numbered.
I guess in terms of cost option one would be cheapest followed by option two. The problem with option two is that part of me thinks it won't reall be Tiverton Castle
Is that dumb?
What would it cost to reprint compared to just a renumbering
Any advice or opinions gratefully received

Re-numbering and re-naming a GWR livery loco is an order of magnitude cheaper and easier than re-painting a BR one to GWR.

I am at the stage when I can happily add new name plates to a loco, but not ready to remove existing numbers and replace them.

I am told using things like T-cut on a cotton bud the numbers come off easily, but I am frankly terrified of doing that to a newly bought loco! 

I know of a couple of companies that do re-numbers, but diesels, not sure if they do steam...@37058 (West Coast Re-sprays)...do you accept Steam Loco work?

Option two will be much easier and cheaper. Castle plates are available from Fox and Modelmaster and are not too difficult to fit yourself. A professional repaint would cost you as much as the loco.

Agreed. Start with a GWR-liveried Castle and very careful remove the old name and number plates by sliding a fine scalpel blade behind them. Get new name and number plates from Fox, Modelmaster or Guildplates and just stick them in place of the old ones with a dab of matt varnish or superglue gel.

The names/numbers aren't etched or separate, so it's simply a case of putting replacement etched plates on top of the original printed names/numbers - probably one of the simplest renumbering processes possible.

Thank you, I must have been thinking of the separate Dapol etched ones.
