QuoteI notice that there don't seem to be any flat plates anymore. They have sharpish edges so may be considered a hazard these days.
They also changed the bolts from slotted heads to an allen key, cant have the little darlings have a nasty screw driver slip and scratch there delicate hands

Quite, heaven forbid.
:)
Size matters - especially if you don't have a lot of space - and N gauge is the answer!

I used to have loads of Meccano in the early 1960s and regularly used to make a cable car which I ran from floor to picture rail level.
Do I hear the sound of younger folk asking what on earth picture rail is? :)

Mine ran to the pelmet. Not seen one of those for years either!

A child of the 80s, this is the set I had and still have...

That's great Carmont, i didn't have set's in the 50's, 1958 i think it was, it was a huge box with a kid on the front playing with a tower crane if this old memory serves. I played with that for ages until i was at least into my teens, then of course other things happened, girls, girls girls  lol  :laugh3: :laugh3: :laugh3:

I got as far as set 6 with a couple of motors before females became  a distraction, however looking back i think  sticking with meccano would have been a lot less hassle and a dam site cheaper.

It sure was...  :laugh3: :laugh3:

This was the one i think, not 100% sure, but i am never 100% sure of anything these days....

I remember this picture and trying to recreate it with set #2 when I was 7 years old - fat chance. But I did get to set number 8 or so in the end. I still think Meccano is the best 'toy' ever made for boys (and for girls).
