one of swmbo friends was over for a visit today and she could not believe she allowed me to have my layout permanently erected in the bedroom.ah the power of my charm so it got me thinking where does everyone have there layout or previous layouts?? is your missus as understanding as mine

In the flat I was allowed it in our bedroom (largest room), but when it arrived I got major ear ache, which continued for two years!    She hated it so much that when we moved to our house I was given a 'train room' in the converted loft.

My previous layout i had while me the mrs and my little man lived in a static caravan at our place of work waiting for a house,,,,,

it was a split board design that packed away into the shed seen in the background, the frame and boards were very hefty to cope with the moving around and i dont think scenery would have really worked on it, so i was very glad when we got a house,,,, and when i was given the news that i was getting a much larger shed to do with what i would, so the original layout was salvaged for track stripped down and some of the wood has gone into supporting the frame that my current layout is supported on, and the two hefty boards now make up the floor of the shed that my current layout is housed in,,,,




This is the last overall pic that i took of the layout as a whole alot has happeneds since

First layout was in spare bedroom when I lived alone, 2nd layout in shed when marriage occurred, 3rd layout in spare bedroom 'cos I said if there was no railway room, no move. 4th layout now in dining room in very small bungalow. A 5th will occur when I have a 'pod' built in the garage (piggin' Lawrence causing me to spend money again)

We live in a two bedroom terrace with no spare rooms or usable loft space  . Then our youngest decided she wanted to move out last year, (she is in her late twenties) . Within three days of her moving and before HID thought about it I was down the local timber merchants for some necessary supplies!

To ease HID annoyance I did buy a new bed so my "Train Room" could be used as a spare bed room for the odd night should youngest needed to stay over for a night or two,(or if I needed a comfortable "dog house").

SWMBO now recognizes the usefulness of my Train Room, she know where I am most of the time!

I have an office come model railway room. Or as a friend who peered in put it "Ah man shed!"

My layout lives in the kitchen while it is packed away - the two halves bolt together to form a 6'x3'x2' "wardrobe" type box and it's the only place it can be out of the way. Upstairs is out of the question as we'd never get it up there without damaging it 

However, to put the layout together and run it we have to move it into the lounge, shift one of the sofas, then we can just about fit it in diagonally across the room, meaning you can't get to the front door or the stairs, and you can only get to the kitchen by ducking under the layout 

Is my misses understanding?? Well she helps me with building the layout, comes up with ideas, and enjoys "playing trains" to the point she ran it on her own at the 2009 NGS AGM. Nuff said

Oh I must have some of your charm- our layout is in our bedroom, occupying pride of place at the window.
A pessimist would suggest that its allowed there so I can't slope off and hide...

Hmm that sounds awfully familiar  if you are as (un)lucky as we she will move back in in 6 months time, you will put up with the unsubtle hints about lack of space for about 6 months, then bin it all, to start again sometime in the future 

Mine is in a spare room.  Here in the US they call it a 'bonus room' or man-cave.  It can't be counted as a bedroom here because it has no toilet of its own, but it's a decent size for a bedroom.

We moved to the US for my wife's job and it was one of my conditions that I get the bonus room for a railway (the Dodge Challenger was the other one).  My wife is very understanding of the mess I create in there.  She largely ignores it all, but is happy that I have my dream-come-true layout.  She says she will help with ballasting too.

With friends like you who....... Youngest has been gone for 9 mths with no signs yet. Having said that, I've already had some thoughts about a shunting plank. (just in case) 

Should be in the spare bedroom, but currently in the front (AKA dining) room, as I can't get it upstairs until the track is pinned/stuck down. Still shuffling track, so may be there a while!

Currently in one of the spare bedrooms but is a shelf layout so doesn't take up too much space... Am in advanced negotiations to secure the box room which for the last 8 years has been somewhat of a dumping ground for SWMBO whose painting has never really taken off.

Modules stored on wall brackets in the main bedroom in an alcove under the TV  above the dog's beds.(SWMBO) insisted that is where I can store them.
I am allowed to do my modelling on the Dining Room table.

Oh......dunno why, but I always thought the expression playing trains in the bedroom meant something else.
