I'm trying to get a grip on what would be correct, or at least be plausible, behind a DP1? Be that coaches, wagons, etc..

Thanks!
Spend as little as possible on what you need so you can spend as much as possible on what you want.

How about maroon or blood and custard Mk1's. Or perhaps a rake of Mk1 pullmans would look nice even if not prototypical (or perhaps it is!)
:beers:
Size matters - especially if you don't have a lot of space - and N gauge is the answer!

Someone's going to correct me BUT wasn't a deltic the motive power for the Tynes Tees pullman with blue grey pullmans of metro cammell type?????

I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Excellent!! Now, what am I seeing there?   :D  :thankyousign:
Thats a great question. Im no expert on coaching stock.
Looks like Mk1s mainly in maroon. Someone will be along soon with a definitive answer.

bluedepot

yeah i would say maroon mk1s would look best

way before my time though!

what is the first coach behind the loco?  not a mk1 so far as i can tell.

Yes, that first coach puzzles me, too. Possibly an old Gresley converted into a lab car for measuring speed, etc? Dunno!  :hmmm:
Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

Cant work out what any of the coaches are after the carmine & cream one (Which looks MK1ish) (Think is 12 cars in length)
With the exception of the second Coach the other coaches between the Cream and DP1 are Gresley coaches.

I don't know enough about this era of coaching stock to know if the second second coach is a MK1 or an late LMS design but I would have though MK1.

Remember it wasn't until all those mainlines and branches were closed that they had enough coaches to send all the prenationalisation stock to the scrappers.

From the underframe, I think its a Mk1. The first coach, and probably 3,4,5+6 look like Gresley. I think the location is Highdyke.
A photo taken in 1967, in a book I have, the train on the WCML seems to be all maroon Mk1s. Another photo on the WCML has a Stanier leading coach; a third photo on the ECML has a maroon mk1.
In early WCML trials it ran 'overnight freight trains' between London and Liverpool; later it was used regularly on the 'Manxman' and 'Shamrock' trains.
In 1959, it transferred to the ECML and ran service trains at least on the former GN mainline an in Scotland. Google has some leads on the turns it worked, though most references are very short.

As DP1 was built in 1955 I intend to run mine with a rake of crimson/cream MK1s

I have just looked at this fantastic photo, and I can see that 5 of the first 6 coaches are Gresley's, coach No2 being a mark 1
