After around half a Century of using paintbrushes I decided two years or so back to invest in an airbrush package. Thus far not had a problem with the compressor, but the cheap airbrush supplied with it has been a let down. I must say that I went for a package with a cheap airbrush so I could cut my teeth so to speak. I bought another cheap airbrush off of ebay as a back up, but both the damned things have had me tearing my hair out. I could do without this as it's coming out anyway!

I have always liked what I have read in reviews about the Harder and Steenbeck range, and their entry level Ultima airbrush. When the cheapo airbrushes were new I could get a nice fine mist for weathering, but this was rather short lived with clogging and stripping down for a deep clean becoming ever more frequent.

I bet I'm not alone here in reaching a crossroads, whether to invest around £60 (or more)in another airbrush or simply go back to using brushes as I have for so many years. Only I can decide of course ,and I probably will go for the H&S Ultima airbrush. Something I have noticed is they seem to be the same price everywhere within a pound or two. It's is similar to Farish introductions where items are the same price everywhere, although only for a given length of time.

A few years ago I invested in an Iwata CR revolution airbrush and cannot fault it. It still produces the same results now as it did then. However it cost me more than £60.

I have four airbrushes the last time I counted. As with everything model railway related I have far too much of everything - you should see my paint box - but that's another story.
My favourite of these is the Iwata eclipse. I also have a badger and iwata revolution. The eclipse has the finest control of all of these but most importantly it has a paint pot to the side. The revolution is on the top and it gets in the way of what you are looking at when you paint. The badger is a bottom feed and that is just uncomfortable in the hand for me. if you can try some out, then definitely do, or you could do what I do and throw your hard earnned money at till you get the right one.

H&S CR plus infinity 0.2 is superb £125 is expensive but I will not need another.

H&S airbrushes. I am drawn towards this make. I read a review where the Iwata Neo and the H&S Ultra were pitched against each-other. The reviewer considered the H&S Ultra a better product in a few respects.

In magazines/bookazines on airbrushing you seldom see H&S products being used, Iwata seems to dominate. Maybe H&S are not so free with their products, just as Dapol are reputed to be compared to Farish?
