I have decided to combine further replies to former posts on three different Threads into one.

1) Layout Name:
Firstly I have finally decided on a name for my Layout  :-
The Anglezarke & Belmont Railway. Anglezarke, Belmont, and Rivington are 3 neighbouring places in a rural part of Lancashire where I spent a fair bit of my spare time in my youth.

No railway line ran through these places so I have invented one, and in addition named one of the halts Rivington, the place featured on TV not all that long ago as a venue for cycling road races (can't remember whether it was the World Championships or the Olympics or some other televised major cycling event).

2) Name Plaques (and making use of old materials):
Secondly when I acquired a load of Peco side mounted point motors recently, they came with extra parts (risers) to fit 00 layouts, but of no use for N gauge. Rather then throw them away I have decided to use them as Station & Place name boards, by trimming them a little, and using a yellow "Dymo" label stuck on them with my Station names on. Haven't got it quite right yet but it was nice to find a train icon on my Dymo "Letratag" machine which I could make use of.

I'm loath to throw out anything like that as well, because it might be put to future use. You have displayed this concept nicely! 

Layout naming can be problematical, by the time you consider Era, area, preferences and such stuff. Also the name should telegraph the atmosphere you wish to create.  I struggled for years and finally found a solution which keeps me happy,  at least.   I decided that as the builder I would become a railway company, and as I wanted freedom of stocking and running choice I chose 'AGR' (Anything Goes & Runs).
By using that premise I named my current layout AGR-Shed-Enderby for obvious reasons. This approach enables me to release my mind-set.
I actually like Enderby and previous stations have been 'This Enderby', 'That Enderby' and 'No Enderby'.
I tend to prefer steam and usually model the period up to 1955ish. My locos could be from anywhere and I replace the group logos with AG&R transfers which allows me to run any companies colours without feeling guilty that they are incorrect.  I treat my 'layout as a fictional story and get just as involved as when I read a book.

My main layout 'Kimbolted' has very personal connotations which a couple of folks have correctly guessed at but I also think the name itself reflects its location 'somewhere near Oxford'

Welcome to our friendly forum, nice to have another transition modeller, there's quite a few on here.

TDM I just thought i would point it out to you, I spend a lot of time myself over Belmont and Rivington walking. I noticed a old railway line just on A675  north end of  Abbey village, it goes towards Chorley through Brinscall, there is even a railway road in Brinscall. Sorry but I do not know anyting else about it.
