Thanks to another member I have a Farish class 108 on it's way to me - in green with whiskers. :bounce:

It is the 371-875A version, with AMLWCH / BANGOR destinations, which won't suit my layout. I found this set of stickers on eBay with Northern region destinations, and assumed that I could just stick a sticker over the destination (I thought that they were just printed onto the body) however I've just seen on another thread that the destination boards on the 108's are illuminated, and behind a small clear cover?

This brings up a couple of questions:

1. How easy is it to get into the destination box to change them?
2. Has anyone used the vinyl stickers from this eBay seller, and do they let the light through when fitted?

After applying the new destinations to the clear plastic inserts, it's worth just painting around the edges of the plastic and paper in matt black to reduce light bleed. Best to use enamels as sometimes acrylics soak in to the paper too much.

Hi JRB, I've changed them all on Tormouth.... So the printing is a stamped print on the rear of the tiny perspex part that is the destination board.... I removed the parts, carefully removed the print (dont use ipa or acetone as it will ruin the plastic...) printed out my new names onto paper using a laser printer and then glued them onto the tiny perspex part with micro kristal klear....cut around once dry and reinserted into the aperture..

Those stickers appear to just stick on the front of the destination board.

Thanks for that. Do yours still illuminate? I guess that depends on the thickness & type of paper used. I might have to experiment with printing the destinations onto clear acetate/OHP transparencies...

...or perhaps I'm just over-thinking things again!
