No RIP for Prince ?  Not a huge fan but lots of other
less known geezers got a send off in the forum.

RIP Prince. You were by many accounts a prolific writer and have a great following.

I noticed the lack of posts on his sudden demise. I'd put it down to (probably) an age thing - not suggesting any of us are over 25 - but I can't recall Prince getting much airtime here recently. Mind you Radio 3 does tend to play mostly stuff written a bit earlier.

He was only known to me for about 3 singles* and, although it's very sad he's gone, my age dictates the 'other lesser known geezers' were better known and liked by me.

Regarding celeb RIPs at the weekend I was in my local
and one of my pals had his smartphone on and there
was a site listing celeb deaths like Prince, Victoria Wood,
Bowie etc, one I missed was George Kennedy, died in Feb
this year, a great supporting actor, often with Clint Eastwood
Lee Marvin etc, big, heavily built. balding, fairhaired.

I hadn't heard about George. That's a great shame :(
I don't think I've ever seen him play a poor role in anything.

Agrippa

Yep , a much underrated actor, when he and Clint Eastwood were filming
the Eiger Sanction in Switzerland a friend of mine who was into
rock and ice climbing helped the film crew out with technical
stuff about ropes, belays etc and he had a drink or two with George and
said he was one of the nicest people he'd ever met, showbiz or non showbiz.

I remember the George Kennedy obit. I think he was also in the Airport and Naked gun franchises.

As for Prince, he was certainly a big splash in the '80s, but I was into music more of my generation at that time. That said, looking back on his body of work, he was an incredible musician and a prolific and profound songwriter. Unfortunately much of that is lost in his showmanship which is what people see in passing.

He was a genius - particularly the way that he played all the instruments etc on his music Much missed :(

Despite liking a fair number of his songs I must confess I was never a huge fan, but his guitar playing is out of this world. Probably my favourite example is this all-star tribute cover of While my guitar gently weeps:

You almost don't realise Prince is there until about 3.25 into the song then he bursts into life and makes one of Clapton's solos his own.

Cheers, Mike

... and what an exit from the stage at the end!

An EXCELLENT musician and an outstanding showman.

There, doesn't that feel better?
Lovely!

I must admit I was never a fan, but having watched that clip I am impressed. Very like Hendrix.

Thanks for posting!
Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

Great video, Oasis pinched the song and called it "She's Electric "..... :D

I liked some of his work.  I believe he had equal amounts of talent and strangeness but he was an Artist.
