New Farish coaches come with two types of corridor blanking plates to be fitted. One is rectangular whilst the other has a curved top. Why? TIA, Brian

Possibly designed to portray the different types of corridors.

My fading memory thinks that ex GWR certainly had curved blanking ends, but MK1 carriage gangways had a square top with curved edges , so I guess the square versions are for MK 1 and possibly other (LMS SR LNER etc) companies.

Mk2 stock and onwards had an internal fold over plastic door so blank ends were not required.  Yes ALL coaches in the BR days had a sliding door that could be locked with a carriage key but the blank ends were an extra insurance to prevent accidents...  Not used in parts of Europe as I remember travelling through Bulgaria looking for the buffet car and sliding open a door to see the receding track in front of me!!!
