Hi guys been a while so here goes the local council are now helping the newly formed North Woolwich mrc to get permanent club house near to the library will have the new home soon fingers x so as to build new club layout I have been working with my son two young lads who have not been in schools for past 3 years the deal is the addend school 3 days a week  and Wednesday and Friday with my fellow club members since attending the club there attitude has improved and grades gone up not a great deal but showing improvement I also have two lots of 4 adults with learning difficulties if was not for members on this forum and another one I use this would not be happing its been hard over last few weeks been spat at threaten with knife but I am I this for the long haul no going back my lady thinks I need help I guess the jury will always be out on that one lol  for acts of kindness.mike

I am absolutely delighted to read your post. As a teacher I have long said that the educational potential of railway modelling is enormous. From obvious electronics, through woodwork (technology these days) and scenery construction, to historical research , social history and business enterprise. There are many others, but what touched me is how you have recognised that modelling can be used for promoting self esteem - I know you haven't used those words but I guess from what you've written that is exactly what you are aiming for, improved self esteem leading to more engagement in the classroom.
I'm absolutely fascinated to see how far you get. Often these projects can fail because key people like yourself don't get the support they need. And make no mistake, working with school refuses is no ride in the park, it is damned hard work. That's not say those youngsters don't deserve their chance, of course they do, and I'm so glad our hobby is attempting to do something.

Hi and thank you for your kind word its with great joy that I have been given a lot of support from my local MP who was very badly injured some years back in a stabbing so this guy know full well what the children /young adults are like for the most they have very little if any direction given in life skills come family who rather drink or take drugs than be bothered to help them in life wonderful ocean at 58 I thought life might be easier for me but I just cant stand by and watch tease children/young adults join gangs pick up a knife or gun if I can help them to start a better path in life I have to  try I guess it goes back my old teacher never given up on me .mike

Are there any celebrity modellers on here who know Guy Ritchie, the guy who makes a living from films about East End gangsters ?

If so, let him know about Mike's project - it would make a great sub-plot for one of his movies, with Jason Statham in the role of Mike !

Hi Joe thank you for the buildings the children as very happy and say thank you well most of them lol few train hater just want be pifa and destroy what we have achieved so far  being half term not best time as or the most they just hang about smoking ,drinking these are the ones I am so willing to help to get a better deal out life its so very sad to see this happening week in week out But as stated in this for the long haul never I run from a fight and at 58 tomorrow not going start now well be one of two things few will change or I die trying lol

Sorry guys I am about to swear I new member joined today Keith a 00  guy and with him was his early birthday present Hornby e-link majestic well what nightmare to get it running lol my lenz lot easier lol so now have 8 n gauge and 3 00 gauge but it was a good session children had great day learning how to open boxes and not one died yet .mike
