At the Bournemouth show today I asked a one of the traders if he had a chuck for a Minicraft drill; he said yes, then proceeded to rummage through one of his boxes and came up with a cheap minidrill with a collet , I said no, I don't want a complete drill I want a CHUCK, so he showed me a dearer drill with a collet.

I gave up.

Eek. 

Superb, you get this all to often at places like toolstation (other companies are available and responsible) you ask for something specific and they give you something else. I'm not sure if they're trying to up sell you glaringly obviously or they just don't understand you know what you're talking about.

I got a Buy it Now from fleabay yesterday, I didn't do that sooner as I thought there might be a chance of saving postage (whatcha mean Cheapskate! )

Forgive my ignorance but I am assuming that this chuck allows you to use very small drill bits with a Dremmel or a similar type drill? I had gotten the impression from some other people (not on here) that drill bits that small are very fragile (too fragile to bother using a drill on) and so I bought a pin vise for hand drilling tiny holes. Do you break tons of bits? Or should I run out and buy a Dremmel because I'll find 10,000 uses for it on my model railway?

Reason I want a chuck is that my old one has started to slip and lose its grip on the drill or other tool.

The alternative is a drill using collets instead of a chuck where you have different inserts for different shaft sizes, I invariably lose the inserts, plus it's a PITA to have to keep changing the inserts when you change drill size.

I use the Minicraft for cutting and with burrs for removing metal without the effort of filing. Same sort of uses as a Dremel except I don't pay for the name just the drill!
