Just went to my local model shop to get a few bits of plastikard strip, and somehow came back with a Farish 'Seaside Excursion' set...

Yeah, and?  Is that it?  Am I missing something here?  Seems like normal behaviour to me...

Seems your local shop has a very good line in sales patter :D

Quite the opposite, actually - he didn't want to sell it to me! :o

I spotted a pile of 4F's split from the sets, and asked how much. £85 came the reply, so I asked how much for the full set & was told £135. I had a quick look online & found Hatton's had sold the full set priced at £110 (despite the fact they don't have any stock) so asked if he'd price match. The answer was a polite no, he could get far more by splitting the sets (apparently he bought all the stock the distributor had of this set for that very purpose, presumably why no-one else seems to have stock of them anymore) and I should go & buy one from Hatton's (he didn't know they didn't have any left) at £110 if I could get it for that. He pointed out that there'd be postage on top too, so I said I'd take it if he'd accept £120, which he did.

Trouble is it won't really fit on my tiny shunting layout...

Is that an excuse to build a bigger layout?  ;) David.
David.
I used to be indecisive - now I'm not - I don't think.

Harrumpf, I must be abnormal ?  :smiley-laughing: >>
A similar thing happened to me about a year ago but I came away with   two Seaside Excursions :D

Then more recently WE went to the model shop to collect MY xmas present ( some coaches &etc ) and SHE came away with a Mountain Express,
tis a mystery how these things happen,
it does not seem to make any difference if one takes along an adult to supervise either !  :laugh3: :o

I think it's inevitable! No point in fighting it, really. :worried:

I must say, it does look a bit feeble with only 2 coaches... :(

Ran the 4F in earlier. One hour in each direction. Reversing was fine, but it had a definite 'limp' going forwards. Also, when I took it off the test track I noticed that the rear steps on one side were bent outwards at about a 30 degree angle! Don't know how I failed to spot that before running it in. So, a quick sprint back to the shop, arriving about 5 mins before closing, to swap it.

Running this one in now - tried it forwards & backwards first, and it's fine with both

Luckily (for my credit card) there wasn't time for me to look at any additional coaches!!!
