have had abit of a idea for exhibitions.
for anyone who buys things from shows, there is always a worry your get home to find it doesn`t work.
so i would just set up a basic oval, in dc and dcc for you to test your new loco
course, i would have to charge, maybe 50p loco but it would save you the cost of taking it home then having to post it back to supplier/shop.
to get more business i would have a n and oo gauge loop...

be interested to hear peoples thoughts.

All you need to do is take a 9v PP3 battery with you to test if the motor works.

Sounds like a good idea, but would you be classified as a trade stand and therefore  have to pay ?

Dunno what shows you go to, but most of (maybe all) of the ones I go to have this already - Warley, for example.

good idea in theory not sure how busy you would be to cover costs etc though.

When exhibiting I've often been asked to try a loco for someone and I've no problem with that. Our club also has a test track at our show so no problem there either. Some dealers also have a straight piece of track. Good idea but I can't see you being very busy.

Quite often the layout next to said trader is willing to test run the loco on there layout for you.It is something that we have done many times when exhibiting Saneham Tey.

I think thisis a great idea and I will be suggesting that we have test tracks at our show in August. It just makes sense.

last year at our local show a trade stand was testing loco's by way of a wheel cleaning brush perminently wire'd to a bachmann controller which seemed sensible, although if i was buying id ask them to try each pickup set and driving set of wheels and walk away knowing they had just cleaned my wheels for me,,,,,,,

As some people have said, if I buy a loco at an exhibition I generally ask a layout operator if they can run it for me as then you can see it through points etc which you wouldn't get on an oval.
Nice idea in principle but maybe not commercially sound

The MRC had a multi-scale/gauge test track for checking locos at the Warley show this year and most clubs either offer that sort of facitlity at exhibitions or you can ask a layout to run it for you - so not a new idea, but a sensible one.
