Some "interesting" A4s appearing in the listing for October 7th

Is it my eyes?  Has my PC developed a fault?

Or have these two blue A4 developed elephantine chimney appendages???

they are removable packaging bits. they should have been taken off prior to photography perhaps :p

Just the chimney protectors left on, nothing to panic about-

apart from demonstrating that Hattons secondhand dept still need to get their act together....

A "like new"A4 I bought a couple of months ago was not actually coupled to its tender- the drawbar had been ripped off at the loco end and an attempt had been made to solder the connecting wires back resulting in the socket for the pillar screw on the loco being melted.

They were told in no uncertain terms that "like new" didn't apply to it, and that in anyone else's dictionary the best description was "write off".  I got a refund including return postage and an apology......

Interesting Les - was that not clear from the pictures?

They had one sounding very similar to that recently.....I gambled on it and it's now fully repaired with only minor evidence (if inverted) of the previous owner's attempts to utterly destroy it. Wonder if it's the same one....

Those are an after market kit (from Cottage Creations, I believe) for the failed experimental "smokeless" filter system trialed on the London to Aspley line.
However neither of the locos shown were ever so fitted (4499 "Kevin Rudd", green livery was the correct one), so just remove to restore correct outline.

Loco and tender had been pushed together for the pic- no indication in the pics that they were not actually coupled to one another- if there had been I would have avoided it like the plague.

Interesting to know for the future - thanks. Clearly a bit naughty on their part...

The one I got was 60012 - had clearly been a cack handed (understatement) attempt to reattach the loco and tender with some form of hideous glue, and some attempt to solder a wire between the two. Underneath all that the base components were actually pretty much undamaged, and just needed it all cleaned off, screw holes drilled clear of solder and screws run down them to clean the threads. Everything reattached, reseated, and new wires fitted and she goes pretty well - only evidence of her misdemeanors is slight damage to the front buffing plate of the tender where wire attempted to be soldered - but this is invisible on track.

Amazing what folks do to a £100-worth of loco.....
