For listeners to Clue, my opening move is Googe Street.

Oh dear, I don't think that works well unless you are playing the double switch rule.
Becontree.  :)

To move away from the gibberish and get the thread back on topic for a moment ::) I have to disagree with the following:-

Just watched tonights Live at The Apollo and found someone worse than Patrick Kielty... Andrew Maxwell...

I didn't think this was possible!

I thought Patrick Kielty's "Live at the Apollo" routine was hilarious, one of the best I've seen in the series!! Describing his own people as "a better class of murdering b*st*rd" than the Muslims was quite cutting as well as funny  :smiley-laughing:

Roy Chubby Brown should have given up years ago, the only people who find him funny these days is the neanderthal types, and his jokes rely on the language to be funny. I don't mind swearing in comedy, Frankie Boyle uses it to good effect sometimes (for those that have heard/seen the comment about him looking like ONE of The Proclaimers  ;) ), but it's a bit sad when the joke doesn't work without it.

Who do I find unfunny? Where do I start?!  ;D

John Bishop
Rob Brydon
Michael McIntyre (I could gleefully kill him he's so irritating)
Lee Evans (a bad Norman Wisdom rip-off)
Ross Noble
Ricky Gervais (The Office was good, everything else since . . .  )

One really funny person not mentioned yet - Tim Vine. Good clean silly humour, one-liner after one-liner, corny but he has me in stitches  ;D

Speaking of Jim Davidson, one of the funniest things I ever saw of him was a show that was on late at night that he did, many years ago on telly where he had Zippy and George from Rainbow.I still vaguely remember this and thoght it was absolutely hilarious with Zippy being as blue as Jim and being told off by George.

My brother in law is also called Paul and also loves Tim Vine, goes to see him twice when he comes to the Fringe, something you're not telling me  :smiley-laughing:
don't see the attraction with Vine myself  :(

Sprintex

Funny coincidence because my misses is from Scotland (Edinburgh) so it's a possibility  :smiley-laughing:

She doesn't have any siblings though so I think you're safe  ;)

Tim Vine's is a silly humour so I can see why it wouldn't suit everyone, I'm a bit mad though  :P

Did anyone see the Tommy Cooper Christmas show which was followed by the Morecombe and Wise Christmas show that was on last night, they had me and SWMBO in stitches, much better than most modern comedians I'm afraid.

Cheers

Hi Neal (& all)

Tommy Cooper,
Morecombe & Wise,
The Two Ronnies,
Dick Emery,
Billy Connolly (sans swearing)
Dave Allen......

I never really liked Dave Allen but the trouble is most comedians of that period were also not that great. We just don't remeber them (or try not to) - Cannon and Ball anyone ?

I think Sturgeon's law applies as ever. (*)

Ricky Gervais, acts ok but not funny.
Not by a long shot!

There are a lot of good ones out there and as many who are no longer with us.

The late Spike Milligan is still one of my favourites.
Try reading 'The Bible according to Spike Milligan' and not laugh out loud, I dare you!  ;D :smiley-laughing:

I knew someone must like him otherwise he would be working in McDonald's!

His Apollo routine was the best material I have heard him deliver... But I wouldn't describe it as 'hilarious'. I honestly do wonder how he has survived as a comedian.

Agree with you on Michael McIntyre, he is annoying... :)

Dock Shunter

When it comes to comediens only two names stand out for me.....
Bill Hicks and George Carlin.........
Both funny but more to the point....thought provoking through their humour

Newportnobby

I find most 'comedians' nowadays extremely unfunny, as they think that shouting, swearing or gurning into the camera = laughs. Not so.
I used to love Have I got news for you when Angus Deyton chaired it, but Miranda Hart??? She's as funny as an STD.
You have to keep your wits about you, but for sheer quickfire comedy check out the Marx Brothers and the Goons.
American comedy never appealed apart from Cheers and Frasier. The American comedian Steve Wright has me in fits of laughter too - he is just so deadpan. :smiley-laughing:

I do have a soft spot for Sarah Millican though

Pete Mc

I always got the impression that Sarah Millicane only did a stand up routine whilst suffering a particular heavy bout of PMT,she's funny with it though. She also presents Live at the Apollo next saturday night.

Rhod Gilbert is on Channel 4 at midnight tonight.

Chris Rock is on comedy central at 12:50am,I've plussed that already.
