Hi guys now I no longer able to work and my lady is bread winner I have to think twice about what I can afford hence I now find myself making things from cereal boxes and toilet roll holders and all my odd bits of scatter of all colours go into one jar  buying expensive building are long gone I also find myself buying loco that are more often dead than alive and doctoring them some time with different motors to  have that loco running how much stuff do we have that will never be used in your life time that will either stay where it is or binned   where as other could use it  if I take anything away from this hobby is I no longer buy for my greed and think before I buy where am I going to use what I buy I bet with only active member on here we could build one heck layout just in junk never going to be used so what do you RECYCLE.MIKE

I Can here the moans BUT I DONT KNOW WHEN I MIGHT NEED IT 10 years later still in boxes and will be never used

I've got a big bag full of polystyrene and bits of plastic and card/cardboard which look like they might come in handy, and a cup filling with pieces of ballast which got torn up as I had to relay part of the track and they look like they might come in handy. Not sure if it's recycling exactly but a lot of my recent stock purchases are cheap second-hand stuff which I try and fix, like this very old Tomix train:

where I fixed the lighting unit and replaced the plastic wheels on the non-powered coaches (yes, it's really old, but only cost a few quid...).

Anything I might think will be useful for scratch building such as stiff plastic for glazing, small pots for mixing paint in etc. It's also a great help having a 'pound' shop in Preston.

I too collect bits and pieces, but when I start tripping over the piles of stuff, I have a clear out. But as you know, the bit you just chucked out is the very piece you need for an important project.

That's precisely it

Sometimes you just look at a piece of packaging and think " that would be ideal for making.  . . " whatever it may be. My dairy is made from a cereal box, I have satellite dishes made from headache tablet packaging (the tablets within come in handy after squinting at making the dishes!) and twice now I've used bits of Clare's hair liberated from her hairbrush on the layout (cleaned of course )

Confession time I dry my tea bags out and use the leaves for scatter then paint them.

I'm just going out to get my toilet rolls off the washing line

Don't forget to iron them !
