Forgive my ignorance but at the bottom of the forum where it tells you how many members and guests are online it says we have 30 spiders.........

They are what Search Engines use to search through forums and gather information, and therefore appear when people type in a phrase on Google etc.

Yep, otherwise known as "bots" - short for web-robots
