I was photographing a wedding on Saturday in Doncaster and while working around the gardens, I had a guest ask about the camera I was using. We got talking about film, how we both like to photograph trains and eventually onto our N gauge layouts! I did ask him if he was on here but alas, computers were not his thing which was a shame as he was a top bloke.
The odds of this, I'm guessing, are quite slim but I'm wondering if anyone else has met any other railway modellers by chance in unexpected places?

I've met a few while picking up magazines in bookstalls/shops etc but that's not really 'unexpected'.
I did meet an Australian doctor (we still exchange messages at Christmas but have little other contact) who is a model railway enthusiast while he was working in the UK but that's about it.

Sadly, to many not involved, it still gives the idea of 'men playing with toy trains' so maybe many are reluctant to admit the hobby to strangers.

My partner Lorraine used to have a stall at Craft Fairs.
Three or four years ago she was at a local fair and talking to the lady at the next stall, discovered that her husband was also into N Gauge.
Had a chat to him at the end when we both arrived to collect our partners.

An acquaintance of my parents in their rural Welsh village is into N gauge, we were introduced last time I was over there.

The guy that came to service my stairlift brought the form that straight that I was happy with his work into the bedroom for me to sign. He spotted  a  Peco catalogue on the floor and commented on it so I sent him along to open the other bedroom door and found out he is up to his ears etc in Orrible Oversized modelling.
We had quite a chat about v Orible Oversized trains
