just wondered if anyone had any suggestions for removing the Scottie dog markings from the sides of some 37407s ?

I've used my usual T-cut which has removed the numbers and name plates, leaving a nice polished surface for the new numbers, but when I tried it on the Scotties, I found that I ended up with a small black area where I had obviously taken the base paint off as well, although I was as gentle as I could be.

on the other side I tried a glass fibre brush, but that ended up even worse.

my usual paint stripping method for a whole loco / wagon is Mr Muscle, but I'm a bit wary of using this on just a small area.

the numbers virtually lifted off with the T-cut pooled over them, but this didn't happen with the Scotties.

any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Agreed, fibre glass pencil would be the normal method

Makes me wonder if this is the reason for the delay for my 37407 conversion from Mercig Studios!

Hi Mark,

no I had not tried that.

in fact, SWMBO suggested that what had happened was that the 'stalk' of the cotton bud I was using to apply the T-cut had actually rubbed harder than the cotton wool around it, and so had removed more in the centre of the area than the cotton wool had around the outer area.

I then tried a second loco, using the bud parallel to the body rather than at an angle, and although it took longer to remove the scottie logo, the body colour was not removed.

so it looks as though she was right, as always

Hi There,

I tend to use Brasso as it is slightly less aggressive than T-cut. I also use a combination of the cotton bud and cocktail stick method. I also use a scalpel blade almost flat to get under layered surfaces such as the Terrier, then re attack with another cotton bud/cocktail stick on the dire layer underneath. The terrier should be a lot easier than the full body multi colour decal on the DRS 57!!
