How many roads must a man walk down ... ... ... ... ... before he knows he's lost!

Received my copy this morning, correction to previous post, these don't appear to be a reprint, the back cover has the original Publisher - Pendragon - and the original price - £19..95.

It covers just about every coach built by the LMS plus LNWR, WCJS, LYR and Midland, the LMS , LNWR and Midland ones are mainly of interest to me, and probably Pete33, as they would have been used over the S&DJR on trains from north of Bath, although LMS types may have probably started to appear fairly soon after introduction, particularly on the Pines Express (or its unnamed pre 1927 predecessor)

I have the Jenkinson and Essery books covering both Midland and LMS coaches and I still don't know for certainty which type of coach was used on the Pines Express, so I was going to go with the same stock as was used on the Bristol expresses. Do these books offer any 'new' data in that regard?

Not had time for more than a quick skim through, as its name suggests it is mainly scale drawings, some text but I didn't read much of it yet.

The Pines first ran under that name in 1927, but the service had been running, unnamed, since 1910,  a joint venture between Midland and LNWR pre grouping.

Most of my books are Southern oriented, so I have no way of checking which companies coaches were used in pre grouping and early LMS days.

From what I can work out, the coaches usually came from the Midland/LMS, even though S&DJR and then SR coaches (from 1930) were used on many (most?) local S&DJR services. Then there are the various slip coaches that were added in the Midlands - no idea at all about them, but perhaps they were also Midland/LMS.

Unless I hear otherwise, my bet is firmly on MR clerestories for the 1927-1930 Pines... or perhaps LMS Period 1 coaches... As you can see, I've made up my mind... almost.
