You eat your daughter? :o

I'm going to be 54 this year so I want to keep this going as I want to be healthy enough to enjoy my retirement, when it comes, and be able to possibly even finish a layout

Strange the weight loss is causing hallucinations, Lawrence :-X

port perran

I've lost 1.5 stone over the last 15 months. Very gradually but generally via the following :
No cakes when taking a coffee break
Alcohol only at weekends.
No chocolate when getting petrol etc
Slightly smaller portions
Cutting right back on crisps etc
Generally eating healthily (rarely having fried foods).
Also, plenty of regular exercise.
We allow ourselves treats occasionally and also relax on holidays.
After being a regular sports player till aged 54 (I'm now 60). I played football 3 times a week till 55, I had piled on the pounds for 5 years.
I now feel so very much better having lost that bit of weight and never get out of puff.
I also don't miss the cakes, chocolate etc and am happy with no alcohol Mon-Thursday.
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

If it's not a Diesel Hydraulic then it's not a real locomotive.

With regard to your thoughts on a new layout, how about Monsal Dale on the rooftop line, I have thought myself that it would make a nice exhibition layout. With the viaduct, station perched on a hillside and tunnels either end, could all be fitted into about 12' long with very little compression. Maybe when Cromford is finished. :hmmm:
By the way congrats on your weight loss!

You're not alone in this, here's a real and rather chilling story.

I knew a chap who was a very keen rugby player and with that sport it meant a lot of food and alcohol.  Anyway he had to give up rugby but didn't give up on the lifestyle, he ballooned.  One day word went round the office that Bruce had died of a heart attack, he was 37.  A gentle giant sadly missed.

Well done for heading off potential health problems later on.

Hey, I had a great interesting time in Wigan last year   ;D

I've lost nearly a stone, gradually over a couple of years, which I reckon is the way to do it. I like to lose a little more, but I'm not that worried about it - I'm not seriously overweight.

What I don't understand is that my partner and I eat the same meals, and the same quantities (she gets very upset if she thinks my portion is bigger than hers). In fact, she probably eats more because she scoffs crisps, which I can't stand. Yet she remains as thin as a rake of Mk 1s. How? Why? It isn't that she takes more exercise either, as I do the lion's share of the dog walking.

Life is just so unfair sometimes.  :(

Humble apologies to anyone living there who was upset. That was not the intention.
However, I was quoting a friend who comes from Wigan and said he has no intention of returning, unless just passing through on a train.

Thanks for all the replys guys and thanks steve 836 for the suggestion of Monsal Dale, I will look into that it.I am thinking of,making the new layout modular, I could possibly make it into a module on it's own.
By the way Anyone from the North west of the uk knows that the people from Wigan are known as pie- eaters, and actually the origin of the story is not about eating pies, just a humble story. I missed Wigan show this year but I will make sure I go to next years meet.
