Of course; the two days when it was a scorching 15 degrees C (except at London Heathrow..). :)

I'll be spending my birthday in the middle of a Darwin winter  :D

Half your luck, Bealman. As you know Darwin's daily max only swings between about 29 to 33 C winter to summer, but the humidity changes from 50 to 100%. Darwin in winter is as good as it gets.

Here in Canberra we had a beautiful sunny 13 C max today, but the temperature will drop to -1 C in the morning which is not bad for this time of year. At least we don't have to worry about overheating.

Remember its school holidays this rain was pre booked.

In spite of the odd spot of rain something must be happening to our weather. At the end of 2010 we had solar panels installed on our roughly south facing roof. My version of obsession means that I have records now of the daily generation of power going back all that way with occasional gaps when we have been away.

Power generation is a proxy for how bright the sky is, and each year we generate more than the previous year in spite of the panels supposedly becoming progressively slightly less efficient  as they age. So 2015 is running at 5% above 2014, and we are currently 9% above 2011.

Almost forgot to mention that my power company pays me handsomely for each kilowatt/hr we generate (to recoup our initial investment) and buys  nominally 50% of the power for a paltry sum. By careful planning we use around 80% of what we generate which has made a massive impact on the electrifcity bill.

Just looking at the start of the third test....

Looks like a typical English summer day  ;)

Mind you, it is Edgbaston...  ;D ;)

Being an old pedant, I would query the reference to Brazil. Brazil being on the Equator, do they actually have seasons?

They do, but the changes in the North of the country are not as dramatic as what we get because it's on the equator (Southern Brazil's climate is very different from North, it's a big country). If the Earth didn't have it's tilt, which doesn't turn as the Earth orbits the Sun, making summer days longer and winter days shorter anywhere in the world (note that northern and southern hemisphere's do not have their summers and winters in the same parts of the year, they're sort of mirrored), it would just be the same unbearable heat for them all year round.

Having spent a big chunk of my life travelling all over the globe I can say that I don't miss the actual travelling as such. However, I wouldn't mind a bit of the 'unbearable heat' now and then! Actually, forget 'then', 'now' would be nice.....

There, doesn't that feel better?
Lovely!

I may appear to be listening to you, but inside my head, I'm playing with my trains.

I know how the seasons work (Honours degree in Earth Sciences, blushes modestly...), but I was under the impression that equatorial countries have very little variation in climate throughout the year due among other things to the almost constant day length. I've never visited anywhere south of the Tropic of Cancer, so I have no personal experience to draw on. Thank you to MalcolmAL for broadening my knowledge of Brazil!

A day's never wasted when you learn something.

A "bit" of warm weather is fine. You know, moderation...

However, if you were to, say, find yourself stuck in Iraq for 6 long, long months, you'll understand my definition of "unbearable heat". ;)

Sorry Papyrus, didn't mean to be patronising. Hope my explanation of it is correct though, that due to the tilt there is no absolute constant day length anywhere. :p

Aye, well I guess we all have different tolerance in this regard. You see, I was a lecturer in a technical college in Basra, Iraq before the troubles started. I spent more than '6 long, long months' there. It was a great place to be back then.
I have been in many places that were hotter than Iraq but as long as the humidity stays down its not too hard to handle.  Easier than July/August in Texas/Louisiana for example.

I am keeping quiet on this one, as we reputedly have the best climate in the World here (according to what I have read). It's hot at the moment but the humidy is good which makes it much more bearable.

Having lived in Tenerife for 11 years now, the body acclimatises and the blood thins, so in Winter when it drops as low as 16 degrees Celsius (61 Farenheit), it's back to long trousers,  pullovers, and shoes; and a quilt on in bed instead of nothing at all.

Thank god our Pool is heated to 27 degrees Celsius all year round so that it cools you down in Summer, and warms you up in Winter.  :D

After living many years in Madrid... YES I fancy the English summer more... even a bad English summer like this one  :hmmm:
And the summer in Madrid is suposed to be more bearable due to the low humidity... or so they say, but above 35C it is unbearable for me regardless of what they may say.
Next station...

We are supposed to be in our fourth heatwave on mainland Spain (Valencia)  The locals were saying in June that we were having Augusts weather.  Had a hailstorm the other day and no exaggerating some were the size of tennis balls.
My mate had just had an Audi TT convertible re-sprayed and driven it over!  Broken windscreen, wipers, light and many dents.  Mine 4 impacts on the windscreen and lots of dents.  Awful timing.  I'm due to part ex it for a new one this week.  At least it didn't happen to the new one.  Double car port to be built post haste.
