So I thought I would use Woodland scenics foam underlay, mainly because I like it, and IMO you use less ballast when forming the cess etc.

Only issue is it lifts the track by 4mm.

Guess who has spent all afternoon trying to peel glued down station buildings off MDF ?

Yep me... I completely forgot to raise them all accordingly, passengers would've need step to get into carriages

DOH!

I'm not saying how I know, but a paint scraper helps.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

I don't know nothing about using a paint scraper on a railway layout either

I lay the track first, then put the station in to suit!

Thats what I did, only I had laid the track on WS foam, then I suck down the platforms without taking into account the rails were actually 4mm higher, which meant there was a 4mm gap between the step on the coaches and the platform, at 2mm:ft that meant the step into the carriage was 4ft.

I know they say if you look hard enough you will find everything prototypical, but I draw the line at converting my layout to Swiss railways !

I've glued mdf to the base of all my trackside stuff. Works for me!
