Bit of a daft one this  ..................... but can anyone who owns one of these tell me whether the construction suggests that the body can be dismounted from the chassis?

Those in the know will guess where I'd like to go with this one!!!

Yeah, I have thought the same, cargowaggon flat me thinks!

Yes the body unclips, they have a single tower moulded on the floor which clips into the body section. the floor has the close coupling mechanism etc on it so will need a false floor etc possibly making the wagon look very tall in the body. Maybe if the bogies could be acquired from a tatty/broken/cheap wagon the a scratchbuild could be a better option. I know they are not available form Dapol, already tried that source.

Hi Adrian,

The depth required for the close coupling spring mech makes the chassis a bit too deep for a flat wagon.

However you may be able to cut off the chassis side members  and the buffer beams and add them to a scratch built floor.  You'd have to consider an alternTive for the couplers then though.

My other stock is gradually being fitted with Dapol easi-shunts - either into existing sockets or after surgery, new installations.

If the coupling mech comes off altogether, would that ease the job?

From memory the mech and floor thickness pretty much excludes the possibility of using the existing floor, but I could be wrong...!

Thanks Ben - sounds like only the bogies could be used from the original.

Expensive pair of bogies and can't imagine who'd buy a bogie-less Cargowaggon from me!!

Hi Adrian,

Spare bodies are always useful.  Panels, ends, bufferbeams can often be adapted for other projects.  Or you could use the body as a test bed to practise weathering techniques!

just a thought, but are you looking at an empty flat wagon, or a loaded one ?

if loaded you may be able to build the load around the mechanism, covering it but still allowing it to function.
