Tablet chargers

I've recently obtained a couple of windows tablets and a windows 'phone, all in preparation of a consistent operating system (well that's what Microsoft say about windows 10 !).

The chargers that come with these devices are the standard USB plug in the wall types but although the output voltage is a 'standard' 5 volts, the chargers have wildly different current ratings. None of the supplied chargers are capable of either maintaining the battery charge let alone re-charge when the devices are turned on and doing something useful.

At least they are interchangeable so all it took for the largest item (10 inch tablet) was a new 2.4 amp charger that's now doing service. If we had a reasonable consumer protection act down here I'd return all three of the things as being unsuitable but that's not possible here.

I just hope I don't shorten the battery life to much.

My iPad and iPhone don't charge if you are using them, so maybe Windows tablets are the same. Does it charge when they are switched off?

Interesting. I'm on a tablet now (Samsung) which is plugged into a charger (yes, I'm home from the club, Malc  :D), and I must admit I'd never really thought about it too much.... but this is reading 100% charged as I fever away on this awful  virtual keyboard....  ???

THAT is what puts me off tablet computers, iPhones, etc - proper keyboard essential ;)

Hi

That's news to me as both my wife's iPhone and my iPad charge when they are being used.

Cheers

My nexus tablet charges while you are using it as well

All my Android equipment charges whether I am using them or if they are switched off.

I have my HTC One M8 mobile, an Archos tablet and a Huawei tablet plus they all can use the same charger and plug  :claphappy:

cheers John.

Curious. Neither my iPad 1 or 2, my phone or my wife's iPad mini charge while you are using them. We get a "not charging" notification top right of the screen. However, I am using an older PSU that I bought with my iPod. Must check with a different PSU.

Hi Malc with our IPads the little battery icon in the top right hand corner shows the % of charge and the battery is black when you plug the charger in the battery turns green and next to it is an electricity  flash and the % goes up as you watch it for instance it's gone from 89% to 90 % while I've been typing this post .Very strange that yours dosent do that ,maybe your useing a phone charger not an IPad charger as although they have the same plug they give out a diferant amperage.

Malc, are we talking chargers here or PSUs, or one and the same? All the instruments of the devil devices I have bought in the last few years share a USB port for both charging and data transfer.

USB, as you are fully aware, has two pins for ground and volts.

When I first saw this I read the title as Tablet changers and thought hhhhmmmm, a bit of realism to single line working.

I've had the Belkin charger/psu since I bought an iPod several years ago. I like it because it has 2 usb sockets and as my iPhone uses a different plug to my iPad, it is convenient to leave both leads plugged in. However, it doesn't give out enough ergs to charge and use at the same time. I have just tried the charger I got with my iPad and lo and behold, I get the green charging icon, even as I type this. Well spotted Bob.

Glad to be of help Malc.
I can't believe I actually know something about IPads up to now they've been a complete mystery to me as quite a few members know ,several members have helped me in the past.
