Back to Back gauge tool

Hi all, what does everyone use for a gauge to check the back to back dimensions on their locos?

I was laying some points last night and started to get derailments, on second inspection I saw that one axle was narrow, so I tweaked it, however I would like to get them right, rather than close.

There are actually 2 types of back to back gauges depending on whether you're still using the old pizza cutter type wheels or the new finer ones.

Ray does them at BHE here are the details:

BHE508 Aluminium back to back gauge (Early Wheels) £3.45
BHE508A Brass back to back gauge (Dapol/Bachmann Wheels) £3.75

He should have them in stock if you catch him at a show, he's at Warley this weekend.

After reading a load I decided to get the NMRA one as it does all the rail gaps too. its on its way as i type, so hopefully ill be able to review it soon

Standards is standards and is all different.

Back-to-backs:
NMEA (S-4.2) 7.55 to 7.70mm for track span 7.44 to 7.52
MOROP (NEM310) 7.40 to 7.60mm for track span 7.20 to 7.30

Nairnshire say theirs is 7.24mm, which is too narrow. I presume that is a typo for 7.42mm.

If you're modelling American, you're better sticking to NMEA.

Looks like a typo to me. The E is right next to the R, so I would say it's supposed to be NMRA.

hi all,

i'm after a 7.54mm b2b gauge tool.... can anyone link me to one i can buy?

i have a nairnshire one, but i want one set wider, to american standard of 7.54mm.
