Has anyone done or attempted to do an Nn3 scale Lynton & Barnstaple layout?
I am think about starting one but was just wondering if anyone else has had a go.

Hi that loco is looking very nice indeed, keep on going, I'll would like one, not that I know much about L&B.

Are you planning on running this on 6.5mm track or the correct track gauge?

I will probably use Z 6.5mm track for ease, way too wide for the L&B but will have to compromise.
Will probably include Barnstpale Junction so that I can have N gauge locos aswell

Only quibble I can see on the CAD (as a non L&B person though) is that the domes appear to be flanged to join a flat surface not a cylinder - if you look at the domes they have a nice gentle flow into the boiler on the sides but the front and rear facing surfaces do not.

If you look at a real steam loco the join is a bit more complicated than that.

I look forward to seeing more - it always struck me as a very unusual (almost American in style) narrow gauge line, with all the bogie freight wagons and bogie coaches.

Hi Alan, I was thinking about coming up with a similar set up to the steam Kato Pocketline set where the motor is in the carriage, but haven't worked out how to go about that yet. I haven't really started on the coaches or wagons so hopefully it will become clearer when I do.

I know what you mean. I have still got a lot to do with the domes, the centre one needs a cutout at the top, but I have added the flanged bottoms, I am a self taught Cad'er so my methods are probably completely the wrong way of doing it


Can't quite seem to get the domes right, one picture I look at the look pretty flat at the top and then the next they don't.

The extra width by using standard Z track will cause a few complications and re-designs of the loco but hopefully I can get it to work.

Wouldn't you do better to make it 3mm scale? That way the track is pretty close to correct - probably closer than 009 in 4mm. Also more room to fit the chassis and more weight for better pick-up etc.
