I'm inclined to agree that some new castings would be welcome.Circus and Fairground stuff would probably sell well. I can understand that they want to maximise the liveries used on each model to maximise returns, but for modellers as opposed to collectors it can get a tad boring. I cannot help feeling they are missing a lot of potential for 50s/60s vehicles, particularly cars. R.Parker cars seems to be filling a bit of the void here. This is just the period I would like to see covered but others will understandably like more modern stuff. When I glimpse at their 1/72nd range I dream of us getting anywhere near the selection available in that scale.

The Oxford philosophy on new castings and recolours is that they need to get at least 6 liveries out of a casting to make it viable within the current price range. Cars are a particular problem because people tend not to buy all the recolours and everyone wants a model which is not in the range yet! With the new announcements in early October Oxford will have over 60 different outlines in the range, not counting all the various trailer variations. Oxford do some commissions so if someone has a surefire favourite which will sell say  7500 units they can always commission it.

1/148 is not a collectors scale, unlike 1/43 and 1/76, so the market is mainly N gauge railway modellers, some wargamers, and people for which 1/148 is an attractive collecting scale. This tends to favour military and bus models more than cars and light vans. It will be no surprise that the 1/76 and 1/43 collectors want more models too, and like a lot of people not the ones yet produced. There is an Oxford wishlist page on Facebook which shows just how wide a range of wishes there is.

Oxford's recent tooling cost for N is well over £0.25 million according to their MD, and their supply position has now improved to the extent that most models are arriving within 6-9 months of initial announcement. The MD also outlined typical N scale tooling costs some time back which are in a previous post in this thread or 2013s.

Problem is Oxfords models are so good that anything else looks rubbish when seen along side. This means that when you have one or two you feel bound to that supplier. Well meaning family members have bought me other makes of road vehicle but they have to stay in the box!
Perhaps if there were a category for road vehicles in the annual wish list survey it might spur them into producing some more castings or at least encourage some competition.

I'm pleased we have the Bristol Lodekka of which I have three. I am really surprised that Oxford or B.T. models have not done the Bristol L and K types, single and double deck bus respectively. These were so commonplace across the U.K. for roughly a 30 year period. These have a mass of scope for different operators just as the Lodekka has, albeit in Tilling green or red. A previous poster noted that no motorbikes are in the N range. They would be small but surely a good seller for period layouts if they could get a reasonable level of detail in them?  Of course I have a wish list like many others, but I do feel a few glaring opportunities are being missed. Maybe I'm just a tad impatient!   7,500 for a commision....hmmmm.

Still no motorcycles then? :(

Oxford may not do motor bikes, but Noch do  N36901 for motorbikes and N36910 for scooters.

Like a Brough or 500 Norton or Goldstar   -  Nice, but highly unlikely. I'd like an M.V.Agusta like I rode but also highly unlikely.

Was browsing a couple of  model railway mags yesterday and saw some forthcoming Oxford diecast. Using the flatbed Foden chassis they are producing a brewery dray carrying bottled beer crates, in the livery of Scottish and Newcastle breweries. Breweries are more than a little popular with us lads so I imagine they will sell well. Given that they maximise the colours/liveries of a model it would seem certain that a host of other brewery liveries will follow. Some well detailed wooden barrels and metal kegs would be a welcome addition for the drays, as would being able to purchase them separately.

Corgi/Hornby does an extensive range of locomotives 1/120 scale which are essentially collectibles. Maybe this is an N scale Pendolino...........
