I need to check underneath a section of Kato unitrack as I fear some wiring has become detached from a signal. I can lift the track slightly using a craft knife and can see the red and black wires, I'm loath to go further so some advice would be appreciated.

How has the track been attached to the baseboard ?
Pins, screws, glue ?
Carefully lifting with a steel rule should work but if Copydex has been used you may need to clean it otherwise the track will not re-sit well.

I've just removed a double slip in Kato and lifted a couple of pieces before and after to give room for manoeuvring. However, you might only need to lift one ot two bits to get at the wiring. As PP says, a steel rule, or a paint scraper should do it.

Not fun- I've renewed two sections of Tomix track (which is similar) and have another one to do after catching a wire while getting the layout into the Ricoh Arena the other week and dragging a connector sideways underneath a point.

My tip is to add in an extra junction (chocky block or tag strip) to the wiring just before it passes through the board to the point or signal.  If it gets pulled it is easier to renew to the junction than to lift track.  I'll certainly be doing this when I renew Furtwangen Ost's street track over the next couple of weeks.
