THE CDU part of my twin track controller (that operates all the electric pints) has suddenly stopped working. At least I think it has as the yellow light indicating it is operational and ready has gone out, and nothing happens when I operate any of the point switches.

The power to the tracks is O.K. as the controller will still drive trains normally, has anyone else who has a Vesta ever had a similar problem? Is there a "fuse" inside the unit that might have blown?.

It is just 12 months old - so still under warranty - but reluctant as of yet to parcel up such a heavy item and send it back to the U.K. as it could go missing in the post.

PS. The separate power connections that operate street lamps etc., is still working O.K.,
it is just the CDU part that is not functioning.

Have you tried disconnecting the CDU outputs from the layout?

If you have a faulty switch on your panel that is stuck in the ON position or some other wiring problem, the CDU will not charge up and the light should stay off - that is the basic safety feature of any CDU.  If that is the problem and you were using simple AC for your points, there would have been a column of smoke rising from one of your point motors.

Hi Terry,
Before you go to the expense (and possible loss of your controller) why not contact Morley to see if they can offer help from a distance?

Thanks for your replies, but only just seen them as I spent most of today looking at the problem, and by 1st disconnecting the wires from the CDU and putting things back one connection at a time managed to trace the fault to a wiring short and the controller now works again.

Just got to put all the wires back in place again and tidy things up, but that will have to wait for another day now.

I did contact Morley but they didn't suggest any possible checks or remedies.
Need a bath and got a sore back from spending most of my time bent over underneath the layout board, and going out for a meal tonight, so that's it for today.

A bit disappointed with Morley's response, I was thinking of changing controllers but will stick with Gaugemaster and their lifetime warrantee. cheers john.

The trouble is I find that people don't read emails properly before drafting a reply.

When I contacted Morley as well as mentioning the problems I was having with my CDU, I also asked about a 4-track controller, and they seem to have latched onto that question, rather than address the problem I was having.

I have found that quite a lot with all sorts of people & businesses, they just don't seem to read emails properly before drafting a hurried reply.

The standard of Education these days seems to fall far short of what it used to be (IMHO),
I may be getting old but I do still take time to read messages sent to me, and reply with what I hope is a suitable response, although on occasions I do misinterpret the question I am being asked.

Back to the main topic of discussion, I do like my Morley controller, just wished I had ordered a 4-track version in the beginning instead of only a 2-track one as I now run 3 trains at the same time on 3 different main line tracks.

Below is a Scarm snapshot of my current layout where you can see the 3 tracks in question.
