So first round matches are done - anyone want to make a Championship prediction?

Still got the Russia/Korea match to go - interesting to see if Capello has learned from his last World Cup experience.

Like the technically brilliant and smooth ICE train, Germany strong contenders. Holland a bit like Eurostar, impressive but some parts are getting a bit long in the tooth now. England needs to be more like a Pendolino than a Pacer. Spain just seem to be running out of steam and Japan not up to bullet train speed yet.
Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

I like the analogy!  ;D

Can't believe that red card incident in that Germany vs Portugal game, though. They're on the world stage, for Pete's sake.

Bealman ... surely that's "for Pepe's sake!"  :claphappy:

First round of group stages not finished yet! As somebody pointed out, South Korea vs Russia and don't forget Belgium vs Algeria.

Am I correct in saying we've only had one 0-0 draw so far (Nigeria vs Iran)? Surely that's got to be a record for goals for the opening games of a World Cup.

Been quite a belter of a tourney so far? What say you?

Been great to see the positivity of play from most teams
Some extremely dubious refereeing, though, and I'm still not sure the goal line facility is set up properly. Some stonking goals and some absolute howlers from goalkeepers are maintaining this viewer's interest.

But I agree with all comments. Especially some of the refereeing.

Most definitely dubious refereeing! But the it all adds to the drama and entertainment value doesn't it?

Thought Muller should also have been handed a centre stage role in the West End after that performance last night with Pepe's.

Maybe they could have both run a west End version of Punch and Judy ... "He's behind you!".

Should both have seen red in my view.

Now, come on South Korea!

Does Pak Do Ik still play for them ?? :laughabovepost:
That's showing my age - anyone else remember him from '66?
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

I do! - In 1966 I drove my Sunbeam Rapier to France, and in a seafront Bar in Dinard, Brittany watched Bobby Moore lift the World Cup for England.
Called in at Wembley (the old Twin Towers one) on the way home and in the excitement drove my car far too fast back up to my then Lancashire home, and did the Big End bearings in, but I didn't care.

I think at the time I was running a Hornby Dublo 3-rail Duchess of Montrose train set. Shortly afterwards traded the Rapier in for a brand new Mk2 Mini-Cooper,
which cost me £610 on the road minus a £100 trade-in allowance on the Sunbeam.

Pak Do Ik ... will have to ask the wife, she's Korean, hence I have to support 'em! She wasn't around in '66 so I doubt she'll have the foggiest. Then again, I wasn't around in '66 but I know who Bobby Moore is!

Now, that Mexican keeper deserves a medal. What a performance. They're making similarities with Bank's save against Pele in '70 on the tv!

That was indeed a great save. Well done Mexico !!

Just saw that game. The Mexican keeper was indeed awesome!

So....will the Aussies be able to stop the Dutch this evening ???

Bealman

Of course, mate, no worries.

The biggest issue is that it's on at 2am here, and keen as I am, I think Bealman will be  methinks!  :-[
