Hattons are taking pre-orders on a range of Dapol 9Fs. Minitrix did superb 9Fs including Evening Star if you don't mind pre-owned locos.

The Dapol 9F is a superb model...until you try and haul a decent length train with it. The Minitrix one was "a stretched Brittania on a german chassis" but can pull almost anything you put behind it.

I have several minitrix ones and a Dapol version but I love em!!
Had the good luck to drive the real Evening Star on a very short run in the 70's never forgotten the power of that beast.

the 9f is a truly wonderful locomotive, i have a weathered one, heavily weathered on which i got for a bargain £30 at shildon a couple year back.

i want another though to recreate black prince, i was gonna do 'male chicken' (changed by forum) o the north but the looks like its going to have a name change now, and livery change.

the can haul a good rake on my layout, usually on the windcutter is what i have it on, 18x16t mineral wagons and 2 brakevans. otherwise its 7-8 coach  rakes.

a locomotive withdrawn far too early, shame as its a brilliant loco, been lucky enough to fire one at the moors a couple times, beauty!

Thank you, pre-ordered with Hattons

New from Hattons is only £3-00 more than a second  hand one :D

Hi

9f rules!!

I have a Dapol weathered, which runs well, particularly when pulling a slow goods

I also keep a Minitrix black one and the Evening Star. That loco is easily my best puller, will pull over 60 wagons.

I like the fact that although the Minitrix are not true to prototype (over sized, wrong valve gear) they are still detailed fine models with wire handrails, fantastic gearing, great motors and they have working front lights!! Have to give the loco some wellie to light them though (grain of wheats).

Cheers

Mac
