And there was me thinking it would be about the last passenger DC-10. Given that im 5 years older than it shouldnt i now be retired to a museum?

Out of curiousity, does anyone in the membership know the last time a Lanc' crossed the Atlantic (and no, I won't hum it...) ?

Ah well, at least we still have the freighters to provide some REAL jet noise

If we include the Shackleton variant it would have been about 1990 but as to pure RAF "Lanc" the very last RAF flight over the North Atlantic in one was a maritime patrol on 15.10.1956. As to visiting Canada/USA I can find no records after WW2, although, of course, the civil variant "Lancastrian" flew into the early 1950s.
However the RCAF continued to use their Lancs as maritime patrol aircraft well into the 1960s, the last only being retired from service in 1964 after which many were sold into private hands and put back into the bombing role - water bombers to attack forest fires! One of these aircraft (I am unable to discover more, not even the date) was the purchased for a private aircraft collection in the UK and flown back across the Atlantic in the late 1970s, so I suggest the short answer to your question would be that - only about 35 years ago. More recent than you would think.

I wonder if the 2 flying Lancs will go and vist "just jane",  be great to see 3 lancs running/taxiing.

Props and Pistons, East Kirkby Aug 25 and Duxford, Sept 12/13 hopefully.

The last Lancaster to fly the Atlantic was G_BCOH/KB976 that I watched fly over Glasgow on its delivery flight on 20/5/1975 .The aircraft was on it's way to the Strathallan Museum . It was damaged in a hanger collapse in 1987at BAE Woodford and eventually sold to Kermit Weeks in Florida where it still exists as a kit of parts,

Thanks for filling in the gaps. I was too busy chasing Westerns in 1975 to notice. Now, if only we could get a brace of "Thousands" and a couple of Lancs in the same spot at the same time.

I saw it in the hangar the day before the collapse.  Fortunately when it happened I was across the other side of the airfield at "top shop".

Now the whole lot is being demolished for housing!
