I'm a relative newcomer to the business of model railway construction and keen to benefit from other's knowledge. This forum contains a wealth of invaluable info, but I do find the Knowledge Bank most difficult to use. That's because when you enter it all you get is a list of the alphabet. Would it be possible for an enhancement to give some idea of the entries, if only the title, that are included under each letter? This would make browsing and searching so much easier.

Hi Bob,

That's the impression I had at first but, put your cursor on the letter and 'click' it and
a list of posts will appear.
You should be able to find what you want if its been covered.

Either that or use the Search button and expand the lower section on the search page so you can use the tick-boxesto search in the Knowledge Bank section only ;)

Still think it's a bit naff just getting a list of letters. As a onetime software designer I think there ought to be a more user friendly and informative presentation. It doesn't exactly thrill you with excitement and think "Oh, I must have a look at this". Speak to any geek and he'll come up with a hundred stupid suggestions.

Bob, the way it was laid out was to keep it compact and not fill up the board with lots of sub boards.  It was originally designed as a repository of links to articles and information, so if you are looking for paint you click on P, if you are looking for baseboards you click on B, and as others have said, the search function is very useful.
Naff or not, so far it seems to have worked, obviously not to your satisfaction I realise, but in general it has been okay.  There has never been a software designer as part of the team of volunteers that run the forum, but if you are an accomplished user of the SMF forum format, and are willing to volunteer your time as well, then I am sure that Tank would be interested in hearing from you.

Cheers Lawrence. I'd love to help but I don't think I could stand the stress. Speaking from bitter experience, screen layout was one of the most controversial and contentious of subjects. Even screen colour would generate as many opinions as people you consulted. Anyway, my forte was call centre software, and I'm sure you wouldn't want to go down that route ?!? :sorrysign:
