Item in local paper,

On the face of it that's bewildering but I'm a complete sceptic as far as newspapers are concerned. We don't get told the complete story and the paper only reports what it believes to be sensationalism.
This may not be true in this case but I don't believe a word of what's printed in newspapers !

thats a bit harsh, they usually manage to get the name of the paper and the date right 

Happened to me once - problem being paying large amount of cash into someone else's account sends the cashier into a tizz. Money laundering rules were applied (incorrectly) and bank refused to take. On another occasion, I was able to pay cash for a transfer to a forum member, to pay for some items purchased, with no problem, although the amount was smaller.

All boils down to poor training and incorrect application of rules.

It's even worse than that. Even if the banks' capital ratio were to be raised to 20% (it appears to be less than 10% at the moment), you would take in £20, they would keep £4 for you in case you wanted it back again and spend the rest on crazy 'leveraging' schemes to make themselves rich. Or have it got it wrong?

It depends where in the world you go. Usury (money lending for profit) is an offence in many parts of the world so they have to invent real ways to do things. (It makes things like mortgages rather different too)

It's not real money anyway, most of the world's money is an imaginary promise the Americans will print some more of it to pay you.

Perhaps someone should point out to the newspaper that they forgot to print the value of his house,that seems to be important in most newspaper reporting.
