Had a little run out to this weekend and decided to take the plunge on my first loco. Class 25/2 Diesel D7549 BR Two Tone Late Crest - £65 New

I'm really happy with it an runs like a dream, Smooth like silk. Really happy with the purchase. I do like to read up on the history of things I buy. Search the web came across a couple of photo's of the actual train after it was renumbered to 25199 ( According to information on derby sulzers ) Not sure if this is weird but I have a feeling of loss, after seeing the photo below lol since it's my first. I'm still searching for a colour photo if possible of D7549 in BR two tone green if any members might be able to help.

I have 3 x Farish class 25's, including the weathered one you have just purchased.
Although I gather they are not correct detail wise, I agree they are first class runners. Shame they have no running lights as it's meant I have had to pre-order the new Farish version due middle 2014 ;)

Would have been nice to have it lights a blaze but I cant expect to much for £65 quids. The box doesn't read blue riband so guessing the'll save the best for last?

Nearly forgot, update on the layout coming in the morning including a mistake lol

You wouldn't need the lights for daytime in the green livery era anyway, so it's not much of an issue. The real lights weren't very bright anyway, even when the glass covering them wasn't covered in crud.

Agreed, Bernard, but there are those who run trains at night when insomnia strikes :-[

Here's some examples of the sort of level of lighting that is more realistic:
Cl.33 on the 'Night Ferry': http://www.eastbank.org.uk/images/Ferry/NF0107.jpg Note the long exposure has increased the apparent light from the headcode; you would only see the actual numbers rather than the blurred effect.
Western on railtour(70s): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/19/Class_52_D1010_Western_Campaigner_on_the_Requiem_Relief,_Paddington_station,_13_February_1977.jpg Again slight increase in the brightness of the tail light die to the exposure, but less than the first photo. Even so it isn't exactly ablaze! (The RH light would be a white marker when at the front).

Oh, and here's normal (unlit) daytime running: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7167/6713954597_3a1aab9e50_o.jpg It does illustrate the effectiveness of the yellow ends on a dull day.

With how dark it's getting earlier and earlier I was thinking of lights, maybe just hold a torch above the layout like a full moon
