Hi,

I have just considered starting to build an N guage layout and bought a job lot of track from EBay - the track is generally Lima with some Peco thrown in. I would be extremely grateful if you could give me some advice on:

1] Is it worth building using Lima track  and can I extend it with other makes of track such as Peco or Hornby.
2] Will Graham Farrish or other loco makes run ok on Lima track.

As you have bought a job lot of track you need to ensure you give it a good clean.

What locos are you considering running on your layout?

There is a very useful search facility you can use to help find some answers as they may have been asked before.  However I am sure you will get all your questions answered.

Thanks for your advice. I am trying to create a country scene with a country halt. Will not be running large locos and will be sticking to Ivatt 2MT and Jinty, that sort of loco but may have a black 5. Just rying to get my head around Anyrail program trying to work which track make to choose. I have some Bachmann curves so will start there.

You have a reasonable size to fit some track in to create a small country scene. Look forward to seeing progress.

Thanks to all those have welcomed me already to the forum and the advice recieved - still in early planning stages.

 

Feel free to ask questions. But the main thing is when you start building we want photos Some of us can't read (ok me then).

As I said earlier I have some mixed track, if I was purchsing PECO track would it be the Settrack Code 80?

Setrack Code 80 is easy to use if you're a complete beginner, and I think it's probably the best track that you can buy off the shelf. But as I've gone through several versions of my track plan, I've slowly been convinced to use Code 55. It means a bit of extra wiring, but it also means no locos stalling on the points. Something to bear in mind...

 

Posted this elsewhere on the forum - not sure where to post yet: Can you tell me if when trying to construct a curved double track the outer is 45' and the inner is 30'? Can I use 36' Lima on this - just bought a job lot of Lima N/3030.
