Broken Neck

#45
My layout is a shelf mounted around the room which I started last week, It is called Caprice why well if you look at the definition of the word in a dictionary it means on a whim and Changeable, as I have no plans on paper (I hate doing things normally) :thumbsup:only an image in my head, :-\  me thinks that the defination will be well met.
Will post some build log when there is something to show.

Looking forward to seeing something. What location/era/liveries are currently in your head for the layout?

Broken Neck

Well now you mention it the picture of the layout will be in no specific area but will incorporate land marks from a wide area linked together by feilds, cliffs or housing. It will be DCC, 2 mainlines with continuous running fed by a automatic fiddle yard, with a DC preservation line running round the room as well fed from a seperate fiddle yard also there will be a branchline with small platforms, this will also split for a goods yard and seperate lines for an equestrian centre and canal loading/unloading facillity.
Part 2 of the project (the other side of the room) will be mulled over while I construct all of the above.

The liveries will be mainly Sectorisation and Modern image Diesel with some Steam LNER,LMS and GWR on the preservation line, the era as you can imagine can be anything but the main layout will be 1982 to present day but run as seperate periods at one time.

Hope this gives you a good picture of what I am trying to do. It will take a while due to my disability but it will be good therapy (thats my excuse to the little lady) pictures will follow soon but again will be slow.

Thank for the further detail. It sounds like you have your work cut out, to say nothing of the bashing your wallet will get (or has had if all the stock has been bought). Probably like me, you think you have everything you need then someone goes and brings out summat else on your wish list ;D

Hello,

My latest layout is called Trial & Error as it describes the process I went through to build it. The baseboard is styrofoam and I wasn't at all sure if it would work.

Another name I had thought of was Trainset Curves as it is very compact and uses set track.

Regards,

Veronica  :Class31:

Hi Veronica - does the layout work on Styrofoam, and are there 2 stations (Trial and Error). Have you any pics :camera:

I've a confession to make, Trial & Error is an 00 layout. The styrofoam works very well. It is about 50 mm thick and has a light wooden frame around the edges. There are a few snags though, the points are all hand operated as I didn't think point motors would be easy to install. The track is laid on Woodland Scenics foam roadbed which is excellent.

It is a double track oval with one station so we'll have to assume that the other station is behind the backboard.

I built it to run my 00 locos which include terriers and a Q1 which until a few years ago weren't available in N.

Does anyone else on the Forum model in more than one scale I wonder?

Regards,

Veronica.

Hi Veronica,

I help my father with his 00 from time to time.  I'm just about to start out with 5" gauge.

I`m exploring the 'joys' of Z gauge with a few bits of 2nd hand track from ebay and a Vollmer station kit I was given

Oh dear = suitable penances must be made. Cloughie will need at least 2 packs of Hob Nob biscuits. An NGF mug must be purchased and you must recant.

Most of the rolling stock has been purchased over the last 2yrs but I know what you mean,it has gone from the I need that, to the I would like that, stage. The layout sounds complex but it's not to bad.
