I've tried emailing Brian at Shawplan (about a month ago) and got no response, does anyone know which of the silver double arrows and depot plaques are needed for a class 58?

The Dapol model is very plain and I always remember these having the depot plaques and BR silver double arrows.

Has anyone added these and know which items are needed?

Try giving Brian a ring or talk to him at an exhibition.  He is incredibly busy, but will help out when he can.

Shawplan don't do (reliable) eMail
It took me three years to get my first order processed

I currently have a second order pending, eMail sent in March 2013, for the items that weren't available at Model Rail Scotland

I order from Shawplan several times a year, always over the phone. Brian is very busy, agreed, but takes phone orders and I always get my order through the post within a couple of days. Give them a ring mid-week during working hours and if at first you don't get through, keep trying and Brian will get it sorted out, I've never had a problem ordering from them.

In terms of the 58, go to Flickr and find out which depot plaques are needed for your model. They will probably be Toton plaques (the cooling towers). Brian sells these (and all other depots) and BR arrows in N; your 58 will look all the better for it, mine does!

I think you need to put things in perspective here - if you are dealing with a large operation eg Farish then your expectation is reasonable, but for a one man band I think you are wrong.

Brian does what he can, when he can.  If we as customers can't moderate or change our behaviour to suit him (and the many other one man bands which this hobby relies on) then we may well risk him deciding he doesn't need the hassle. See it as a bonus if you can contact people like Brian by email, but if not there are other avenues open to you.

Not that them (or Dapol) can get that right either.

I guess we'll agree to differ, as a one man band I'd see fulfilling customer inquiries which will lead to orders as a pretty high priority whatever means of contact they come in via. But if he's got enough customers to risk not getting new ones then he must be happy.

Anyway, I've got the means to get the answers I need now.

The depot plaques I'm pretty sure are simply DP2576 (Toton) but I'm still unsure which double arrows I need as I thought the class 58 ones were unique with the smaller cabs. If not then I guess I'll just order EEA2-3 Cast Arrows (Standard Railfreight) as fitted to most Locomotives.

There are these DP25-50 Cast Railfreight Plates as fitted to Class 58's but I'm guessing they're the Red Railfreight logos as applied to the Railfreight Grey / Red stripe livery.

If you can't even check eMail at least once a month, don't advertise it
However, the first time I used it the eMail was returned as an invalid eMail address
I discussed this with Brian the first time, he wasn't even aware of the issue and wondered why he hadn't received any eMail in the last 12 months
Typical response time is now about 12 weeks

I firstly assumed you are modifying the Triple Grey / Triple Grey Coal livery, however these photos of the original RailFreight livery

Triple Grey livery -
The Class 58 had smaller Toton depot plaques
They used to be available from BH Enterprises, and may still be available

Ah, knew something was smaller on the 58's, yes it's the triple grey coal sector I have. The Railfreight plaque reference is just the only class 58 specific thing in the shawplan catalogue.

Hmm, I'm not so sure that follows - if you're a one man band and on the phone then you can't be doing emails (and will have less time for it later).

'Arrachogaidh' and 'Red death' are right. You need to be 'sensible' about contact and put things in to 'perspective'. But the best recommendation is probably not to give up at the first hurdle or failed contact - sometimes you never know the real reason and can never be fully sure that they've actually received an email, unlike a phone call. HTH.
