Please give me your opinions.I have a full box of flex track here and I get the rest of my starter gear next week-do I buy my radius set track curves at $130 or save money and curve at a better radius using my flex track as I will have plenty of it-what are the pros and cons? Also what size drill bit for track pins to drill flex track?thanks.

Hi Will,
My personal preference is flexi track and I use Tracksettas for bending to the correct radius.
These allow you to push pins in with the Tracksetta in place and give consistently neat curves.
I can't help with the drill size as I use Sundeala for my surfaces and track pins just push in through the sleepers. When loose ballasting the pins can be left in or not - your choice.
Note - if forming double track I would also suggest the use of the Peco 6ft way gauges.

Flex track allows for fewer joints due to its longer length, and therefore fewer areas for future problems.

However laying flex track is not as simple as set track, so it comes down to your proficiency at maintaining a smooth curve, which with Tracksetta curves isn't that difficult.

If you go for Flex then don't forget that with Peco track there are little arrows on the underside that should always point to the inside curve

Good luck, and lots of  :camera: please, whichever you choose  :)

Thanks for your quick opinions, reckon I will go flex and I have no set radius just the 950 mm baseboard width I was going to make a template at about 16 inch radius to lay track against and get curves even.sound ok?-thanks for the arrow tip, thought there was something on underside.

If I had space for 16" curves, I'd be using flexi, although I do find it difficult to lay.

In the case of my small layout, the curves I'm permitted are in line with the setrack range, so I use setrack.  Very easy to use.

The other consideration is cost - flexitrack is much cheaper over the same distance than setrack.

Will - suggest you get a nail or a screw into the middle of your board width. Tie a piece of string 16" long to the nail/screw and mark your curve out with a pencil. It will then be easier to follow the line with the flexitrack
