Like Oldman I had a talk with SWMBO about the future of this hobby, I could hardly get into my 3m x 2m shed for layouts.

I demolished my two layouts gave the inside of the shed a repaint and will now use it as a radio shack and layout room.

The plan is to build a 2m x 1m layout along the lines of Beamish Museum with the trams, coal mine and steam trains, this idea appeals to me as I am no spring chicken and when I go to the big layout in the sky my family will be able to make use of a transportable layout.

The plan is to work on the trains during the day and  chase shortwave radio early morning and late evenings.

Sounds good to me Dave.
Wish I could put up an HF antenna here  Have a Yaesu  FT 817 sitting upstairs fully modified to transmit on all ham bands worldwide.
Don't forget the kettle for hot drinks when the DX is really good.

I think you may also need a few more sunspots  :'(

Sounds like more visits to your mates shop on the horizon.

So in see that i'm not the only one who has had the talk about ones hobby. my garage is now clear as the fire engines are now gone, so bring on the trains I say. the train room is 4.5m by 3.5m but I now have an empty 12.5 by 7.5m spot. I wonder what I could do with it.
Suggestions?
Bart

Not if I can help it Colin I just spent a small fortune on Shortwave Radios and a Scanner, if I spend much more I will get the marching orders from SWMBO  :veryangry:

Hi Bart,  I think its a good idea to include ones spouse in whats going on with the hobby, must admit this time I used a bit of the old blarney to get round things though.

Crikey with all that space I wish you luck, I could never attempt a layout that big cause I dont think I would be around long enough to finish it.

Hi Dave, totally agree im getting nicole to do my backdrop and scenery as she is very arty and has a good eye for detail whereas im the builder electrical type. I got one mate who wants to put his van in it while he refurbs it and another mate reckons his speed boat would fit no probs
