clan magnolia will be roaming the streets of Paris on 22&23 July.
anyone know of any unmissable model shops, just in case opportunity strikes?

thanks

Donald - appreciate this should go into the model shops section, but thought I perhaps needed a name first!

Don't miss the rue de Douai, close to place de Clichy. 4 model train shops, and one diecast car and truck shop all on one block. Transmondia is an N specialist, with their own products as well as stuff from all over the world.

Others are TransEurop, Decotrain, Les Cheminots - who also stock a lot of N.

Will you be looking for British N gauge ? If so, you'll find very little.

As well as rue de Douai there is a shop near place de la République in the 3rd arrondissement - head towards Bastille along boulevard du Temple which then becomes boulevard des Filles de Calvaire on the right hand side of the road.

There's another one in the 2nd arrondissement on the south side of rue Reamur, just to the east of the junction with rue des Petits Carreaux.

Bonnes vacances !

many thanks guys, I shall try and wangle a trip to one of these! by no means guaranteed, sadly...
currently getting roasted on a campsite in Brittany, then to Paris to see the ednd of Le Tour, and then, maybe, a little divertissement in the moderl train direction. certainly not looking for British stock, more a little souvenir wag on or two from French railways. or a loco, if no one is looking...:-)

I found the address of the shop in rue Reamur. It's :

Central Train
81 rue Reamur

#5
last night in Paris just now, all tucked up in bed awaiting a last breakfast before heading up to Zeebrugge and the ferry home tomorrow.
sadly, no model shop visits, as we didn't really stray far from the river, and the obvious tourist attractions. Thanks again for the info though - I'll save it for next time!
We did however get in and out of town on the very continental double deckers running on RER line C, so I shall be asking questions about the modelling potential for these. They all had names, our favourite being Jill, as that is Mrs Magnolia's own name.

The RER line C goes past the Eiffel Tower. Hope you're going to include that in your modeling plans ?

Best regards,

Joe

ah yes - the tower would be a project for a long winter!

we were staying at the suite novotel at issy-le-moulineaux, so just a stop or two away from the tower.

le train et l'hotel:

Train named after Mrs M (Jill)  We also rode in Etna and Sara, which together seem to be the only names they have been given.  Nice names though - shame this one didn't display it properly on the front!

The names signify the route and stopping pattern of the train which is obviously very helpful to the locals, and saves trawling through the long list of calling points displayed on the departure screens.

That's a nice touch! Better than calling it service C1, C2 etc.
