Hi,

As a complete novice, I am gradually getting together quite a few locos etc.

I am looking for a reasonably priced storage box, case, for them. Rather than taking them to my local club to run in their original boxes, in a carrier bag.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have used his storage boxes before. I find the A4 size with plastic boxes tend to be a little bulky and prefer to go for the 2XX trays which I can then put into storage boxes or Flight Cases.

I have also used this supplier - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-x-N-Gauge-Railway-Train-Foam-Tray-Insert-Cardboard-Carry-Case-Storage-Box-/161003403302?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item257c8cf826

I tend to use a Flight Case for a little more protection. Maplin used to sell them on their own but it looks like you have to buy a set now - http://www.maplin.co.uk/flight-case-triple-pack-with-dividers-513879

The large case will accomodate 4 large trays, the medium looks to take two of the smaller trays.

Cheers, Mark.

Those blue boxes are also perfectly sized to fit side-by-side in the cheap collapsible crates you get from pound shops for easy carrying ;)

Think I'm up to fourteen of those boxes now :D

Then there are wooden boxes with shelves in as per the photos below

As you can see above, each box has 6 shelves

..and each shelf has 18 slots, making a total of 108 slots, each slot will take a single coach or loco, or you can actually get 3 small 4-wheel wagons in, like PCA's, TTA's etc.

Each box costs around £55 and are hand made by a chap called John Cox from the Alsager Railway Association.

I was looking at these on Saturday. I was helping Pete Latham on his Imperial Yard layout and he had several of these, very good they are too.

Very well made and strong plus Lockable. Something that most of the plastic trays aren't!

He does a variety of sizes, I think the one in the picture is the large.

I'm ordering one for myself and will pick it up at TINGS.
Whenever I write a letter to someone, I add a footnote briefly explaining Ohm's law. It's my P.S. de resistance.

I got myself a couple of these;

Although you wouldn't want to run over the case, the cardboard case is quite strong. I lift the inner's into a draw when at home and then into their case when transported.

They came very quick from the seller and very well packed.

I use the KR Multicase aluminium ones, they do cardboard ones which are a bit cheaper

They work well for me.

I have three of the KR Multicases - which, when you take into account that they are nearly £50 each, may say how good I think they are!  :o  :)
