It's been standard Bachmann policy to produce new models in both scales for years now, and the 40 is ripe for a retool.

Apart from all the examples where they haven't. So no official announcement and nothing actually on the way with it being just your opinion that it is 'ripe', eh?

No doubt that they might get around to it sometime in the future but in the meantime they've got a massive long list of outstanding models that they have actually said they are developing. Consequently I doubt that a class 40 is currently 'on its way'. Could be wrong tho. . .

Well if any of that lot get produced - and both Farish and Dapol must prioritise already announced models - I doubt I will buy any.  I am happy with my 2 current 40s , one Poole one China, - fine at normal viewing distances.  Had one split gear on the older Poole model.  Easily replaced.  I have put BHE split headcode front on that one.  Might get another loco to put a plain front on I suppose.

I like the idea of a split code Peak and agree the bogies are wide, but again as an early new model from China my ywo look fine at viewing distances.

I voted for a Clan (well essential in Scotland) among other things.  Most likely source, if at all, probably Dapol as others have suggested.  But my problem with their tender engines, and I only have a Brit, is that wretched drive shaft which comes adrift easily and is a ******* to reconnect.  My colleague turns the air blue with his 9Fs, A3 and A4!  That is one reason I have stuch to Farish for my B1s.

I know it is hearsay but this quote from the other wishlist poll thread:

Is the farish peak really that bad? I havent heard many complaints up until i saw it made joint third?

I did once speak to bachmann at ally pally that if they were ever going to be retolling the 40 and the response was "i would think its worth a bet that it will be comming along at some point!"

I know it is vague enough that it could be two years off or twenty and I shouldn't read too much into it; but the implication is that there is a definite plan for an updated 40 (but that's probably true of the entire range, including the stuff still to hit the shops).

Well, yes? Old Farish tooling? Check. New 40 on it's way in OO already? Check. General policy of releasing in both scales? Check.

I'm not Hercule Poirot but I don't think it requires amazing deductive reasoning to suggest that perhaps, maybe, just possibly, the Farish class 40 might just maybe possibly perhaps get an upgrade in the next year or two.

Well, of course, that possibility is true of the entire existing range especially as they age. I got the impression you were infering that it was definately 'on the way' but apparently it is just your best deductive opinion. I thought that I'd missed some confirmed announcement - still, no doubt, that will happen sometime in the future.  :D

I did ask at Ally Pally whether the retooled 40 would appear in N and the reply "only a fool would bet againist it" was all that was said with a grin so id take that as pretty much confirmed. I would expect it to be announced in 2015 announcement given the OO wont be here till Warley but 2014 is possible.
