Got back from Scotland last week where I failed to buy a single model railway item except a tin of humbrol paint which will probably turn out to be the wrong colour. C**p model shop with a silent owner !

Since then I just can't get into the hobby. I am trying to finish the power station card kit but its slow slow slow.

Eldest dog has doggy dementure and the collie (14 years) was diagnosed on Friday with a severe liver disorder plus a slight brain disorder!!
Mrs H goes back to the hospital tomorrow for an endoscopy so hope that works out ok. At least her treatment is free!!!
Roll on summer!

So may be silent for a bit longer....
Some days its just not worth gnawing through the straps.

With those concerns on your mind I don't find it very surprising you cannot get back into the hobby.

I hope Mrs H gets good news tomorrow and I am sure once things settle down you will get back into doing things again.

Till then look after the ones that matter  ;)

cheers John.

It's understandable... Buying the wrong colour paint could dampen anyone's enthusiasm!

Good luck to Mrs H.  Sorry to hear about the dogs too.

Sometimes i find modelling is a great distraction, other times it gives you too much time to think.  When it's a slow project it is usually the latter.

Take care.
Mark.

I'm a personality prototype... you can tell, can't you.

Oldman

I don't think it is a winter thing, mine was spring.
currently playing with strips of evergreen styrene, making the walkway for my brickworks.
Sorry about the dogs and hope Mrs H is OK. Mrs Oldman has finally received her diagnosis and have severe nerve problems in her neck and one arm, plus arthritis.

In my case knowing every thing apart from the kiln itself needs lots of research and scratchbuilding has helped get me back on track.
Modelling stupid small scale using T gauge track and IDl induction track. Still have  N gauge but not the space( Japanese Trams) Excuse spelling errors please, posting on mobile phone

For some people it certainly is - there's a thing called 'SAD' which is rather well named.

For me summer tends to be when I get many things done - its a bit hard to spray stuff outside right now  :'(. Winter I get wiring and the like done instead, or kit design work. At least when its not so freezing cold I have to abandon the room and hide in the warm bit of the house !

I personally find i do more modelling during the winter months than the summer prefering to get out and do photography during the lighter and warmer months. After all when the weather is better i dont want to be inside as i can do that during the winter.

Jeez, Gerry :jawdropping:

Sorry to hear of the problems, and I wish Mrs H all the very best.
Don't stay quiet for too long as, if you don't mind me saying so, you often have me in fits of laughter which helps me shrug off the blues

Just to add my best wishes for Mrs H and hope all goes ok.  Bit like you, since I went back to the UK just can't get into doing much modelling and now I've got family here even less so, at least they go next Wednesday so I'll hopefully get the spark again.

Golly Jerry you are not travelling that well at the moment, I know how you feel regarding doggy dementia, I had a 16 year old Chihauhua with the same problem, very sad.

I hope things work out for the best with your Wife, I sometimes think these things are sent to test us.

As for the hobby I have no doubt when you get a few things sorted out  things will look a little brighter and your enthusiasm will return.

We are different than you as we cant wait for Winter, good luck and I hope things work out well for both of you and the pup.

I think your error was in coming to Scotland, and then leaving again to go to a land of great people, great food, stunning scenery and prolonged periods of wonderful weather.
you should have stayed here and enjoyed our summer - its going to be during w/c 20.05.13, but only on the Tuesday.

anyway, best wishes for the real life stuff. this is a hobby for the spare bits of life, and readily dropped when life and head are full of other matters.

My enthusiasm did dip low over the winter months, mainly because my layout is in my workshop which can get pretty cold sometimes. I don't think it ever got much higher than this for many months!

This recent spring weather has made such a big difference, so I'm hoping to get some motivation back to carry on with layout building.

Cheers,

Jimmy

Well its been a week since my self depressed post.

Today the sun is shining, Mrs H was given the camera down the throat and an  "Alls good" by the doctor despite waiting 2.5 hours whilst every other person in the vicinity was queue jumped ahead of us  :veryangry: :veryangry: We examine the internal patients first explained the nurse, despite that ALL bar one arrived in coats..... Me thinks it was make the english wait day. Anyway as soon as Mrs H was ushered in I was then told to hurry downstairs to the admin office as I had 10 minutes left to pay for the examination. What the ???. 68 Euros later and the job was done. I think I saved money by not paying for the anesthetic spray....
Put in in case Mrs H reads this!
On top of this dog with liver problems has regained appetite and only needs to be carried upstairs in the evening now????.  Mr Mug!
Specialist food for said hound just cost me E94 for a 12kg sack!! the blighter had better live long and prosper now!
To add to the good things it turns out that the red paint was in fact BR Crimson so I have spent today adorning 4 x unpainted Siphons that arrived courtesy of Uncle Hatton on Tuesday.

Took advantage of the lovely weather this morning to do outdoor modelling, downside was that the paint was drying as soon as it touched the plastic due to high temperatures.

Anyway thanks to all for your good wishes and thoughts.

Jerry and of course "Mrs H".

Great to hear things are taking a turn for the better, Jerry
Sunshine can put a better slant on things (so don't come to Leyland), and I'm glad Mrs H has received the all clear
