Friends,

Things are coming together to form my train the "Golden Arrow".

I am intending to have behind the locomotive (Dapol Britannia "William Shakespeare") a GUV + 8 coaches.

Is this a tad over enthusiastic?

I WILL try it and see but what are others thoughts?

In a recent video I also watched the same train in real life hauling the same set-up plus 2 other coaches at the rear which I assume are the Second Class carriages for the less well off?

The Dapol Brittania that I have will pull 7 Farish  Mk1s
Or a mix of 4 Mk1s and 4 Dapol Gresleys without breaking into a sweat 

So I don't think 1 more GUV would make a difference

If they are the old Poole (UK build) pullmans they you may have to check all the wheels spin freely and sort any problem ones but I don't think you'll have a big problem unless you've got steep gradients on the layout.

I have had locomotives haul ridiculous numbers of coaches and wagons on level track
However, as above, as soon as you introduce an incline various factors have to be taken into account
In some cases this reduces the number of coaches and wagons to about 12
Furthermore, add a curve on that incline and you may even have to half that amount

Therefore the only way to know is to create a test incline and the maximum train length you plan to operate
If it is not possible then you may need to amend your plans
