Hi All,

I've recently completed my rake of NSE mk2's - i've got a couple of questions though as to their accuracy.

I've got 8 coaches, 5 of which have black roofs, 3 grey - is this correct? does it matter? should they be all black (or grey) it's an easy enough fix if they need to be one colour or the other. I actually quite like the mixed roofs, it makes the rake look 'lived' a little.

My second question though is are these coaces actually correct? should they have roofs like this or would there have been vents on them? I'm wandering if Farish just took the cheap option when they produced them?

Not too bothered if the underframe is incorrect (yet - i'm still trying to build up my stock to a decent quantity before i start to really worry about accuracy) but the roofs of course are more noticeable!

I guess i'm quite oblivious to the differences between various Mk2's IRL so this lack of knowledge translates down into model form.

Thanks.
Dave

You have not advised with Network SouthEast coaches you have (as there are five different Graham Farish)
Pretty much yes, yes, and yes

Let's start with the roof
It is possible for the roof to be light grey, dark grey or black
You would need to refer to reference photos as many coaches were overhauled (black roof) whilst others were simply had the bodysides repainted (grey roof)

The Standard Class is very good representation of the model
Add a painted Mark 2 Second Class seating insert (from BR Lines) and that pretty much completes the model

The First Class is actually a Corridor with compartments, so requires a modified interior to be fitted, rather than the seating from BR Lines but many people add the seating anyway
It depends on how accurate you want this to be

Finally, the model is based on the air conditioned version, with the roof and underframe matching this
Both would need to be modified, but the supplier for this has temporarily (as many of us hope) ceased production

Therefore, it is worth running these as they are for just now and waiting for the soon to be released Graham Farish Mark 2A coaches, which you can then revinyl
Although, they may be released in Network SouthEast livery later next year

Many thanks for this, i didnt even realise there were 5 versions! some of them already have the seating in, but i've picked up the extra to put in as well.

As long as i can run them (as such) out of the box, i'm happy.

Will consider a rake of the new Mk2s when they come out, but i've found having the bulk of older coaches, my couple of new Mk1s look out of place.

It's one to ponder.
