I got up at 5am this morning here in Australia to see if I could spot meteorite DA14 which was flying past the Earth apparently at that time (or so it said on last night's news) but I couldn't see it. Mind you the news programme didn't tell us where to look, did it. Anyway I scanned the entire sky (it was clear) from me backyard but eventually got sensible and went back to bed.

The videos on the web of that one exploding over Russia are much more spectacular!

I was hoping NASA got the trajectory wrong on the meteor and it actually smashed into planet Earth right on top of the houses of parliment whilst it was in full session and done the UK a big favour  >:(

Ironic isn't it
There is an asteroid coming
Wooo, watch out that's a meteor!

Hitting Parliament here in Oz wouldn't do any harm either, I can assure you.  :D

Yeah, thanks for putting me straight on that, mjkerr. DA14 was indeed an asteroid, not a meteorite.

Don't panic! I'm sure both meteorites and asteroids are like buses.
Nothing for ages and then three come along at once!  :smiley-laughing:

in the case of the russian meteorite quite literally, it had the weight and rough size of a bus when it exploded,

Maybe that is what the Americans did. Why waste a perfectly good Nuclear Missile when you could just fling a battered old Denning Bus at the Russians (which the Yanks are not short of). Just as effective.

The proof is to find a very tight giant Slingshot somewhere on the Eastern Seaboard...

It couldn`t be seen in the UK because it was evening and dark :veryangry:
The Ruskies had a far better view of things the day before coz it happened in daylight.  I hear that  a few Ruskies  have turned green and got TV aerials growing out of their navels  :)
